After arriving in Port City and meeting up with Brianna, Brandon didn’t want to get caught up in any drama, so he suggested they switch hotels.

Brianna looked at him, and for some reason, it felt like a weight had been lifted off her chest, like a ship that had been drifting all night had finally reached port.

Instead of running away, she decided to face things head-on.

“Let’s stay put and see if it’s just a coincidence, or something more,” Brianna said.

If it really was a trap, she wanted to see who was reeling in the net.

Brianna’s tone was stubborn, crisp, and unyielding, like a pebble striking concrete, leaving no room for

argument.

Brandon’s brow tightened. He’d spent years standing alone against hidden dangers, always making sure no one else—especially Brianna-had to face the storm for him.

But in the end, he just said quietly, “It’s your call.”

He stayed by her side, scoping out the venue and talking through the details, like a silent mast shielding her from whatever winds might blow their way.

After finalizing the details with the event planners, the couple picked a restaurant that really captured the

local vibe.

With barely any sleep last night and a long day on her feet, Brianna was completely wiped out, her face etched with exhaustion.

Brandon frowned as he watched her.

“Get yourself an assistant. You don’t have to push yourself this hard,” Brandon said, serving her some food.

She’d just voiced her worries, and he’d come all this way to be with her. Brianna’s attitude toward him softened a little.

“My little company can’t afford an assistant,” Brianna said, a playful smile tugging at her lips.

“I’ll cover the salary,” Brandon said, completely serious.

Brianna laughed. “I’m just kidding. Let’s talk about it later. It’s not like I’m swamped with work anyway.”

Her office staff handled all the day-to-day stuff, and honestly, she was only here for her own reasons.

The two of them chatted idly, the setting sun stretching their shadows out long behind them.

“Well, well, niece and nephew-in-law, enjoying yourselves, aren’t you?” Reese called out, her voice dripping with honeyed malice.

She strutted over in her high heels, her smile as sweet as poison, and suddenly cut right in front of them.

Brianna’s fingers tightened, a cold snort stuck in her throat, like a ghost that just wouldn’t leave her alone.

“Aunt Reese,” Brandon said, rising to his feet. His shirt sleeves were sharply creased, and his voice was smooth as a spring night breeze. “You’re in Port City, too?”

He shifted just enough to block Brianna from view, as if the past was water under the bridge. “Are you here alone? Why not join us?”

“No, thanks,” Reese replied, a mocking smile playing at her lips. “I wouldn’t want to interrupt Mr. Levy and the CEO’s little date.”

She turned on her heel, her high heels clicking against the floor like a death knell.

“Aunt Reese,” Brandon called out again, his voice still warm with a smile, but his eyes were cold and stormy. “Where’s Darcy? Is she alright?”

Brianna felt a sharp pain in her chest and looked up in shock. ‘Has he never really let her go?’ she wondered.

Reese met Brandon’s lethal gaze with a cold laugh. “If you miss her so much, why don’t you go find her yourself?”

Brandon’s smile grew even sharper, like a blade catching the light. “Aunt Reese, do me a favor. Tell her this: coming back, owning up, and taking responsibility is the only way she’ll survive.”

A blatant threat, delivered with undeniable force.

Reese stepped in closer, her perfume cold and biting. “Passing messages is dull, Mr. Levy. If you’re so powerful, why don’t you haul her out of hell yourself?”

Her heels echoed away, trailing behind her like a string of cold, mocking laughter.

Brandon turned away, completely unfazed, and simply tucked Brianna’s hair behind her ear. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of it.”

Brianna just nodded, staying silent.

‘Let him handle it? Not a chance. I’m not going to just sit back and wait for trouble to find me,’ she thought.

After dinner, Clifford called. Seeing how wiped out Brianna was, Brandon politely declined the invitation and headed back to the hotel with her.

On the way, Brianna hesitated for a moment, then finally brought up what had happened at Mrs. Buick’s polo match.

“That Ferrari’s in Kane’s hands now. So, how do we wrap this up?” she asked.

All she wanted was to figure out a tactful way to return the car, but Brandon completely misunderstood her.

“You like Ferraris?” Brandon’s voice suddenly went cold.

Brianna rolled her eyes at him. ‘Where did that come from?’ she thought.

“Seriously? I’m asking how to turn it down without making Mrs. Buick lose face,” she said.

It wasn’t until Brianna said “turn it down politely” that the frost in Brandon’s eyes finally melted away.

Brandon tapped his fingers on his leg, his tone still a bit tense. “It’s bad form to turn down a gift from Mrs. Buick.”

But Kane was the one who actually won the car.

Brianna tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and added softly, “So we really can’t let her think we don’t appreciate her gesture.”

“Then let her take it back herself,” Brandon said, a flicker of annoyance in his eyes. “Kane’s a master at handling favors. Have him ‘loan’ the car back to Mrs. Buick’s team, let it be the showpiece for her charity race.”

Brianna blinked. “Isn’t that a bit too flashy?”

“Flashy is exactly what Mrs. Buick wants,” Brandon scoffed. “She wraps up the event in style, you get some peace, and Kane earns a big favor. Everyone wins.”

Brianna propped her chin in her hand, looking at him and drawling playfully, “Brandon, you’re so clever. But…”

“But what?” Brandon asked.

“But if Mrs. Buick asks why I turned down the car, I’m totally blaming you,” Brianna said with a grin.

Brandon let out a low laugh, all the heaviness gone from his voice. “Go ahead, blame me all you want. I can take it.”

The car came to a stop at a red light, and Brandon glanced over at her. “Any other gifts you need to turn down? I’ll take care of them all.”

Now that one problem was out of the way, Brianna was in a great mood. “I wouldn’t dare keep bothering you, Brandon. I’ll give you a proper reward tonight.”

What she meant was she’d order some takeout and treat him to a nice dinner.

But Brandon totally misread her, took her hand, and gently kissed her fingertips.

“Well, I’ll leave it to you, Boss Brianna,” Brandon said, his voice laced with a mischievous undertone.

Brianna caught the innuendo, quickly pulled her hand back, her ears flushing red as she went quiet.

Back at the hotel, Brandon strolled into the bathroom with a grin, humming a tune.

Brianna watched him, thinking, ‘What’s gotten into him now?’ She grabbed her laptop and dove into work, tweaking the presentation slides for the designer line launch at tonight’s dinner.
