Chapter 157 Brandon Wanted a Divorce
When they got back to Klamdiff, Brianna realized just how much that night on the yacht had left an emotional scar on Kendra. The girl was afraid to be alone and had frequent nightmares.
Brianna moved back into the villa, busy with work during the day, and spent her spare moments with Kendra.
After they returned, they went about their own lives. Brandon was always out early and back late, sometimes not coming home for two or three days. Even though they lived under the same roof, they rarely crossed paths.
The night was pitch-black, thick, and impenetrable like spilled ink.
Under the soft yellow glow in Kendra’s room, Brianna was reading her a bedtime story, her voice as gentle as a spring night’s breeze. The door creaked open.
Brandon stood in the doorway, half in shadow, his shirt collar slightly undone, jawline sharp and tense.
“Step outside. I need to talk,” Brandon said.
His words were rough, scraping like sandpaper.
Brianna’s heart sank for no reason. She handed the storybook to Kendra, tucked her in, and finally got up.
The main light in the study was off, leaving only a single floor lamp casting a dim glow.
Brandon stood with his back to the light, shoulders stiff, knuckles pale from gripping too tightly. Red veins crawled across his eyes, and his polished exterior was slowly falling apart.
“Let’s get a divorce,” he said, his voice rough and low, like a dull blade scraping paper.
Brianna narrowed her eyes, a picture of Allison and Brandon standing together flashing through her mind.
The words almost slipped out, but she swallowed them back and just nodded softly. “Okay.”
A document slid across the desk. “The lawyer wrote it up. Take a look at the extra terms.”
Brianna flipped to the first page and snorted. “Did Miss Moore write this herself?”
Brandon’s mind was a tangled mess, and he didn’t catch the sarcasm in her voice. He just grunted in response.
‘So even the divorce papers need Miss Moore’s personal stamp of approval. That’s some commitment,’ Brianna thought sarcastically.
She twisted open her pen with practiced ease, flipped straight to the signature page, but paused just a millimeter before signing.
She looked up, her voice as cold as ice water. “I need to review it. If everything checks out, I’ll have it signed and ready for you in the morning.”

Brandon felt his heart clench, like someone was grinding a blunt instrument right against his chest. He wanted to lose it, to break something just to vent his frustration.
“There are a few things the agreement doesn’t cover. We need to go over them,” he said, jaw tight.
“You need to stay for Kendra’s sake. She needs you. The divorce stays under wraps outside, and at home, no one brings it up, especially Grandma,” he added.
Brianna could understand keeping the divorce under wraps for now. After all, he was the CEO of a major company, and he had to think about business.
Asking her to stay and take care of Kendra made sense, too. He wasn’t lacking for houses, and keeping her here to look after Kendra meant he could enjoy his new romance without any distractions.
But keeping it from the family? That was just messed up.
If he wanted a divorce, wasn’t it so he could clear the way for his true love to stand by his side as Mrs. Levy?
Brianna let out a cold laugh. “Kendra is my daughter. It’s my responsibility to care for her. As for keeping things quiet, as long as it doesn’t interfere with my life, we can reach a mutual understanding.”
“I’ll step aside if that’s what you want, but don’t expect me to play along with your charade. Hiding it from the family isn’t honest, and it’s not fair to anyone else either,” she added.
With that, she turned and walked out, clutching the papers. Her heels clicked on the marble floor, each step echoing farther away, as if pressing right on his heart.
The moment the door closed, Brandon felt like all the strength had drained out of him. He slumped back in his chair, hollow and defeated.
It was as if something truly important in his life was slowly slipping out of his grasp, and there was nothing he could do about it.
After a long pause, he lashed out, sending his arm across the desk.
Crash!
The lamp, papers, and crystal paperweight went flying, shattering and scattering everywhere. The whole desk was a wreck.
The night swallowed the crash, but it couldn’t swallow the growing emptiness gnawing at Brandon’s chest.
When Brianna returned to her room, Kendra was already asleep.
Brianna pulled on a coat and sat at her desk, carefully reviewing the divorce agreement.
She had only read a few clauses when her breath caught, cold and sharp.
Brandon didn’t conceal any assets. In fact, he was giving her seventy percent of the property.
He must have been eager to end things if he was willing to make an offer that was impossible to turn down.

Since she’d already decided on divorce and the settlement was so favorable, Brianna signed without a secon thought. She went downstairs, pressed her thumbprint on the document, and handed it to James.
“Give this to Mr. Levy in the morning,” she said.
James knew about the Levy family’s current troubles and just assumed the couple was faking a divorce to d with the lawsuit, so he didn’t pay it much mind.
The next morning, when Brianna woke up, Brandon was already gone.
After dropping Kendra off at school, she headed to the office, feeling like there was a heavy stone lodged in her chest.
Staring out at the gloomy sky, Brianna let out a long sigh. ‘Wasn’t divorce something I’d already decided on? So why do I care so much about his reasons for wanting it?’ Brianna thought.
She knew the fear of being abandoned had been etched into her bones ever since she watched her parents’ marriage fall apart as a kid. It was a hurdle she’d have to tear herself apart to get over.
Breaking out of her cocoon, like a butterfly, she had to tear apart the threads she’d spun herself, one by one.
The process was agonizing, but there was hope ahead.
She steadied herself, returned to her desk, let herself feel everything, and then focused on her work.
Patsy had been out of the country for family business lately, so all the company’s affairs had landed on Brianna’s shoulders. One task after another piled up, and by the time she finished, it was already dark outside
After packing up her things, Brianna was about to head home to be with Kendra when, just as she reached the lobby, someone approached her.
When she saw who it was, Brianna frowned, clearly displeased.
‘Nancy,’ Brianna thought.
“Brianna,” Nancy said as she came up to her, worry written all over her face.
Brianna stopped in her tracks, fixing Nancy with a steady, almost cold stare. “You want to talk to me?”
“Yes,”
Nancy nodded, her eyes lowered, looking genuinely pitiful. “I want to talk.”
Brianna tried to keep things civil, though her impatience was obvious. “What is there for us to talk about?”
Nancy looked up, a little confused. Brianna had always been easygoing, but today she was much more guarded.
“I want to talk about Tristan,” Nancy said.
“There’s nothing to talk about,” Brianna cut her off, her tone even sharper. “Whatever’s going on between you two has nothing to do with me. If you and your mother keep trying to drag my name through the mud, 1
won’t hold back.”

Nancy let out a mocking smile and said, “If there’s really nothing between you and Tristan, then why can’t we talk about it?”
“And who are you to talk to me about Tristan?” Brianna crossed her arms, her expression turning cold.
“First off, we’re not friends, so there’s no reason for us to chat,” Brianna said flatly.
“Second, you’re Tristan’s fiancée. Whatever’s going on between you two, that’s your problem. I’m not interested in meddling in anyone else’s business. Got it?” she added.
Nancy had been spoiled by her parents since she was a kid, and seeing Brianna’s attitude, she pushed back even harder.
“If you’ve got nothing to hide, then what’s stopping you from talking?” Nancy retorted.
Brianna let out a laugh, more from frustration than amusement, just as her phone started ringing.
Kendra was calling.
“Mommy, when are you coming home? It’s already dark,” Kendra’s voice was soft, tinged with worry.
Brianna could sense that her daughter was scared. “I just finished work, honey. Play with the nanny for a little while, and I’ll be home really soon, okay?”
After hanging up, Brianna’s mind was on Kendra, and she had no patience left for Nancy’s drama.
“Miss Rich, I thought I made it clear to you and your mother last time. Out of respect for Tristan, I let things slide, but if you keep dragging this out, it’s pointless,” Brianna said.
With that, she walked right past Nancy and headed for the parking lot.
