Chapter 17 Sleeping with Her
Chapter 17 Sleeping with Her
Brianna folded her arms across her chest. “Where’s your assistant? Have him book you another room.”
Brandon ignored her and started undressing, stripping down to his toned torso right there in front of her. “No point wasting money. We can rough it together.”
For once, she wasn’t seething at him. Her mood was actually pretty good today. Seeing him act so cheapskate for the first time struck her as hilarious. “What are you doing here anyway? Where’s Kendra?”
She didn’t have to worry, really but with Brandon out of town, she couldn’t help but fret over Kendra.
He said, “With my mom.”
Brianna’s eyes drifted to his solid, chiseled chest, and before she knew it, her hand was reaching out to brush his bicep.
He grabbed her hand, flashing a devilish smirk. “Easy there, Mrs. Levy, control yourself!”
Her cheeks burned with embarrassment. She thought, ‘What the hell is wrong with me? How could I possibly feel attracted to him right now?’
Annoyed with herself, she tried to boot him out again. “You can’t stay here!”
“Why not? Scared you won’t keep your hands to yourself with just the two of us?”
“You’re seriously getting on my nerves.”
He batted his innocent wide eyes at her. “What’d I do?”
“This is my room!”
“And this is my hotel!”
In all the years they’d known each other, from dating to marriage, Brianna had never witnessed this cheeky side of Brandon.
She couldn’t hold back a grin. “Your hotel’s got a million rooms. Go crash in one of them.”
“Nope. What if that guy swings by looking for you? As the almighty CEO, I can’t risk it.”
Spotting the rosy flush on his cheeks, she realized he’d been drinking. No sense dragging this out with him in that state. Fine, you get the sofa then!”
“Works for me!” And with that, Brandon headed off to the bathroom.
Brianna flopped onto the sofa, firing up her laptop to mull over everything she’d picked up from the day’s tour.
But concentration was impossible. Her thoughts were all over the place.
She thought, ‘What is Brandon’s angle here?‘
She was at a Levy Group hotel, so yeah, it made sense he could find her. No shocker there.
But before, even when she was standing right in front of him, he’d been icy cold. So she wondered, ‘What is up with him tonight? Does bumping into Clair make him think I am stepping out on him?‘
But the divorce papers were crystal clear. She wanted zilch, just a clean split. He had no reason to paint her as the bad guy. Her mind was a jumbled knot. Right then, Brandon stepped out of the bathroom, the steamy warmth just ramping up her frustration.
She said, “Hey, that’s my bath towel!”
“You need it this second?” He started tugging at the towel around his waist as if to whip it off.
“No, no, keep it on!” Brianna waved him away in a panic, not wanting to risk glimpsing anything that might scar her for life.
Brandon strolled over and plunked down beside her, leaning in to snoop at her laptop.
The rich, woody aroma from the fancy hotel shower gel wrapped around him, getting under her skin in the worst way.
She bolted upright, slapped the laptop shut, and stormed off to the bathroom.
When she emerged, there he was, laptop in hand, sprawled out on the bed like he owned the place.
“What do you think you’re doing? Sofa, remember?” Brianna yanked the laptop away.
Brandon didn’t move an inch, hands clasped over his abs. “Back’s killing me. Sofa won’t cut it.”
He’d dealt with chronic shoulder, neck, and back pain from endless desk work and burnout, but over the past couple of years, he’d stuck to a workout routine and hardly ever complained anymore.
Brianna let it slide and settled onto the sofa with the laptop.
Chapter 1 Sleeping with Hei
He said, “Launching a business, huh? Any questions? Hit me. I’m all ears.”
She thought. Where is this chatty vibe coming from? He was actually engaging her for once, back in the day, she’d be lucky to get more than a single “yep” out of him.
Brianna didn’t respond.
Brandon didn’t take offense and just kept going. “When it comes to marketing, Dexter Gems‘ playbook isn’t super helpful for a newbie brand like yours.”
That caught her attention. She turned toward him, intrigued.
He said, “Those old brands have built–in loyal fans. They snag celebs, host fancy exhibits, and the upper crust scrambles for invites like it’s some exclusive prize.
“But if a startup apes that, throwing parties, blowing cash on stars, it might flop hard, looking all try–hard and out of place.” “Hiring celebrities or hosting exhibitions can boost our visibility. If not that, how else do you suggest we do it?” “Draw from your work experience over the past few years and think about it.”
Brianna had just wrapped up listening to the presentation that afternoon and felt genuinely inspired. When she heard him say this, she paused to reconsider.
She said, “You mean starting with online marketing?”
Her experience from the last few years had mostly been spent managing his online PR crises, and just thinking about it still pissed her off.
“Yeah.” Brandon shot her an approving glance. “First off, who are your target customers?”
Brianna blinked in surprise; she hadn’t given that any thought. Right now, her mind was entirely on creating her pieces. Brandon smirked. “With that mindset, you really think you can start a business? Looks like I will have to step in and steer the ship.”
He’d taken over the Levy Group at a young age, not only quashing the internal power struggles but also doubling the company’s market value. Brianna knew he had serious chops.
Since he was in a good mood, she figured she might as well pick his brain properly. After all she’d done for him, getting a little payback for herself was only fair.
“If it were you, how would you handle it?”
“The early product designs don’t have to be mind–blowing. Focus on catching the current wave and linking them to culture wherever possible. Keep the pricing upscale; those first piéces set the brand’s vibe. If you start out affordable, it’ll be tough to shift gears later.”
Brandon spoke with easy confidence.
Brianna was caught off guard. Their ideas meshed perfectly, with both of them viewing culture as the next big thing.
They talked for an hour or two until Brandon noticed how tired Brianna looked.
He patted the bed next to him and teased, “Come on over, and I’ll break it down for you nice and slow,”
Once he’d covered the basics, Brianna rolled her eyes, got comfy, and dozed off right there on the sofa.
She was completely wiped out, drifting into a deep sleep the second her eyes shut.
The next morning, Brianna woke up refreshed but still a bit foggy. As her eyes fluttered open, the feel of skin on skin jolted her wide awake.
She was curled up in Brandon’s arms, one of his hands pillowed under her head, the other slipped inside her pajamas and resting on her waist.
He was still asleep, his breathing steady and even.
For a second, she zoned out. She thought, ‘Is this a dream?‘
Aside from that drunken mistake years ago, this was the first time in ages they’d actually slept wrapped up in each other.
Brianna shifted a little, and he slowly opened his eyes.
Their stares locked, and the room went stone cold.
Realizing his hand was on her waist and his leg thrown over hers, he yanked back immediately.
He mumbled a good morning, laced with apology.
