That morning, as soon as Brianna stepped into the office, she could sense that something was off.
Normally, her colleagues would be chatting and laughing, but the moment they saw her, their smiles faded. and they greeted her in a formal tone, “Good morning, Ms. Meyers.”
Brianna just assumed it was because Darcy’s case had finally been settled, and everyone was just gossiping about it. She didn’t think much of it.
When she got back to her office and was about to start organizing her files, she noticed there were signs that someone had moved things around on her desk.
She glanced around. Everything looked normal at first glance, but it felt like someone had deliberately tried to restore things to their original positions.
She studied the sofa and coffee table closely. The subtle clues there were quietly betraying the truth.
Brianna frowned and pressed the intercom to call her executive assistant.
“Ms. Meyers,” the assistant said as she entered, looking nervous, like she was dreading Brianna’s questions.
“Did you clean the office?” Brianna asked.
“Yes,” the assistant nodded, looking visibly nervous.
Brianna grew even more suspicious. ‘Why would she be so nervous just for a regular cleaning?’ she wondered.
“What’s going on?” Brianna asked.
The assistant hesitated, meeting Brianna’s probing gaze, then finally blurted out, “You didn’t know? Mr. Levy came looking for you a couple days ago… and Mr. Pratt ended up brawling with him right here.”
‘Huh?’ Brianna looked completely stunned.
“What?” Brianna exclaimed. ‘What’s gotten into those two?”
Just as Brianna was about to press for more answers, Tristan knocked on the door, his hands casually in his pockets, wearing a bright, easy smile as he strolled in.
The assistant looked like she’d been let off the hook. “Ms. Meyers, I’ll step out now,” she said.
With that, she slipped out in a flash.
Brianna looked at Tristan, his face still bearing the marks of a fight-bruises on his brow, a purple blotch at the corner of his mouth, and one side of his face swollen.
He looked pretty beat up, but the amusement in his eyes was impossible to miss.
“What happened?” Brianna demanded, her brows furrowed in concern.

Tristan shrugged, looking unconcerned. “Relax, I’ll be your shield against the bad romance.”

Brianna couldn’t help but chuckle, her expression easing up, her brows softening with a hint of sympathy.
“Bet that hurts, huh?” she asked.
Brandon was a judo black belt and had spent the past few years training in mixed martial arts. Tristan, who wasn’t exactly the athletic type, was no match for him.
Tristan looked awkward, but stuck his neck out stubbornly and said, “He didn’t walk away unscathed either.”
“That goes without saying. How could our Mr. Pratt ever be beaten by anyone?” Brianna teased, giving him a playful wink.
Tristan instantly blushed, gave a couple of awkward coughs, and said, “So, any thoughts on the Unity Group deal?”
Brianna suddenly realized she still hadn’t even looked at the contract from last time.
“Well,” she said, turning her face away a bit embarrassed, “you don’t have to always look out for me.”
Brianna’s intention was just to keep Tristan from losing out in business, but as soon as she spoke, her words came out more suggestive than she meant.
Tristan’s eyes darkened, his voice dropping to a low rumble. “If I’m not looking out for you, who will?”
Brianna felt a sudden unease, her brows pinching together. ‘Some things need to be said early. It’s only fair to him, she thought.
“I’ve agreed to the partnership with Dexter Gems,” she said with a soft chuckle. “After the Lunar New Year, I’m thinking of spending a few years in Aurorian.”
Tristan’s smile faltered, the news clearly catching him off guard. He stared at her in disbelief for a momen before forcing a crooked smile. “Sounds… wonderful.”
In his mind, he couldn’t help but picture that bouquet of red roses Brandon had brought her the other day. Maybe, once they were finally free from Brandon’s interference, he and Brianna could have a real fresh start.
“Have you started working on Kendra’s school enrollment?” Brianna asked.
Tristan was already daydreaming about the three of them, sharing a meal under a lemon tree, the ocean breeze drifting around them-a picture-perfect family moment.
At the mention of their daughter, Brianna’s frown only deepened, completely oblivious to the hope shining in Tristan’s eyes.
“He might not let me take Kendra with me,” Brianna said, her voice tense.
“Just because he says so? He’s not even the one who gave birth to her,” Tristan snapped, his voice rising in frustration.

‘If it comes down to it, I’ll just fight him again. Next time, I’ll know what to expect. No way I’m getting my ass handed to me like last time, Tristan thought.
Brianna was amused by his goofy words. She glanced at the bruise on his brow and let out a couple of soft laughs. “Stop talking nonsense. Let me go with you and get it checked out. With all those bruises, people are gonna laugh at you.”
Tristan was about to brush it off, but when she offered to come along, he immediately changed his mind and said yes without hesitation.
“Ouch, it actually does sting a bit,” he exaggeratedly rubbed his brow.
But the moment he touched it, the pain was real. He couldn’t help but make a face.
‘Bastard, that was brutal!’ Tristan grumbled to himself.
Tristan cursed silently to himself.
On the way, Brianna’s mind was elsewhere. She just couldn’t figure out what Brandon really wanted.
She thought, ‘He’d gone to the Harper family, then showed up at the office. What was he up to?
‘Is he trying to fight for custody of Kendra? Or is he unhappy with the divorce settlement and wants more out of it?’
Tristan’s injuries weren’t anything serious-just needed some ice and ointment to patch him up. After that, he and Brianna left the hospital together.
Ever since she learned Brandon had shown up at the office, Brianna had been restless. She was about to duck out with some excuse when her phone suddenly rang.
It was Allison.
A sarcastic smile curled on Brianna’s lips. “Hello, Ms. Moore?”
“Ms. Meyers, do you have some time right now?” Allison asked.
“I’ve got some free time. Why don’t you choose the place?” Brianna replied.
“Perfect!” Allison hadn’t expected her to agree so quickly, and her tone was full of approval. “Ms. Meyers, you’re so easygoing. I’ll send you the location.”
After hanging up, Tristan instantly guessed it was Allison.
“What does she want with you?” he sounded worried.
“No idea,” Brianna replied. “Go home, get some rest, and make sure you use the ointment.”
“I’m coming with you,” Tristan said, unable to relax unless he was by her side.
If Allison wanted to meet Brianna, it had to be about either Brandon or Kane. There was no other reason.

Both guys were serious competition for him, and Tristan wasn’t about to take any chances.
“No need. She’s not gonna eat me alive, is she?” Brianna refused, her tone firm.
With that, she strode toward her car, her attitude resolute.
She wanted to see what Allison had to say.

The café sat right across from the Levy Group, its floor-to-ceiling windows offering a panoramic view of the entire financial district.
Sunlight spilled across Allison’s profile as she sat there, looking every bit like a noblewoman straight out of an oil painting.
Her back was ramrod straight as she lifted her coffee cup to her lips and took a delicate sip.
The sharp click of high heels on the marble floor snapped Allison out of her reverie.
Allison turned, a smile playing on her lips. “Hello, Ms. Meyers.”
“Hello,” Brianna replied, reaching out, her fingertips lightly brushing Allison’s.
