Chapter 28 Patsy Stood Up for Her
After dinner ended, Blanca, Kendra, and Whitney weren’t in a hurry to leave. The three of them lagged behind, trailing at the end of the group.
Once the Levy and Harper families had been seen off, they approached with smiles plastered on their faces Brianna was fuming, her glare at Whitney practically sparking with rage.
“You actually made her the chairman of Unity Group?” Brianna demanded.
Whitney frowned, but out of respect for Brandon, he reined in his temper and explained patiently, “Brianna, Blanca hasn’t had it easy all these years. She’s helping me shoulder some of the load, so I can relax a “Hasn’t had it easy? Is that because of what happened to my mom?” Brianna’s eyes brimmed with an “Don’t get stuck on this. Let the past stay in the past,” Whitney said irritably.
“Yeah, Brianna, your mom’s already passed away…” Before Blanca could finish, Brianna slapped her hard across the face with a resounding smack.
And then, with another smack, Whitney slapped Brianna.
He was about to lose it and start yelling at Brianna when he noticed Brandon approaching, so he quickly softened his expression. “I’m sorry, Brianna. Dad didn’t mean it. I was just…”
Darcy steadied Blanca, shooting a venomous look at Brianna. But spotting Brandon, she immediately welled up with tears and apologized.
She said, “Brianna, I’m sorry. If it bothers you that much, then Mom won’t take the chairman position. Please don’t be mad, okay?”
Brandon had just finished seeing Gabrielle off, after enduring a few scoldings from her, when he turned and caught the scene: Brianna slapping Blanca, followed by Whitney slapping Brianna. He strode over
“What’s going on?” Brandon’s voice carried quiet authority, laced with displeasure.
Darcy rushed forward, clutching Brandon’s arm and tilting her tear–streaked face up at him.
She said, “Brandon, I’m so sorry. Today was supposed to be Brianna’s special day. We just came to celebrate with her, but we didn’t expect…”
“Oh, come on, drop the innocent act. Is that really how it went down?” Patsy couldn’t take it anymore and snapped at Darcy.
Brianna was seething with fury and frustration. She spun around, her face twisted in anger.
Brianna said, “You hit my mom back then because of this bitch, and now you’re hitting me for the same reason. From this moment on, we’re through, father and daughter, no ties left. You’re not my dad anymore!” “Brianna, you’re just speaking out of anger,” Brandon said, standing beside her. “Whitney, she’s upset right now. Don’t hold it against her.”
He was always so obsessed with maintaining appearances, and it was that very decorum that was driving her to the brink.
Brianna said, “This is none of your business! Who is he to you? Ask him, has he ever given a damn about me as his daughter all these years?”
Brianna was hysterical, unleashing her fury at Brandon for the first time in years.
He was no stranger to her meltdowns, but this was the first time it wasn’t aimed at him. It was triggered by others.
Seeing Darcy still clinging to his arm without him shrugging her off only stoked her rage higher
She stormed forward and shoved Darcy away

Darcy stumbled back a few steps, nearly falling, looking utterly wronged and vulnerable. “I’m sorry…
“We’ll discuss this at home.” Seeing Brianna spiraling out of control, Brandon grabbed her arm, trying to pull her away from the scene.
“Buddy, your wife’s getting the short end of the stick here, and you’re not stepping up? You planning to just sit back and take it?” Tristan stepped in, blocking Brandon.
Brandon valued propriety above all, but being called a pushover was the last straw. Even he couldn’t stay composed.
He said, “Tristan, let me make this crystal clear one last time: this is our family matter. I’ve overlooked your remarks again and again because you’re Brianna’s friend, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have limits.” Tristan was about to push forward when Patsy grabbed him and yanked him back. “Brandon’s right. Thi their family business.”
If Tristan clashed with Brandon, it would only make things harder for Brianna and let that awful family sweep their mess under the rug, leaving them even more smug.
Patsy said, “Whitney, the Unity Group was founded single–handedly by Trina. You gave the chairman position to Blanca, and now Darcy and Blanca keep talking about mending fences with Brianna. Doesn’t that seem a little inappropriate?”
Patsy struck right at the heart of the matter.
That family was putting on a big show of affection, and Brandon was all about maintaining decorum. With the issue out in the open, she wondered, ‘How are they going to keep up the charade?‘
Brandon had no clue that Blanca had taken over Trina’s role; his face registered pure surprise.
“Brianna, let’s go home and talk this through, alright?” His tone softened noticeably.
Darcy said, “Patsy, that’s not how it is. Mom didn’t even want to get involved with the Unity Group. She said it wasn’t appropriate. But Dad’s not in great health, and Brianna has her own career and family to juggle, so Mom had no choice.”
Patsy said, “Darcy, from our perspective, your mom stepping into that chairman role is just downright disloyal and unfair. If she’s truly reluctant, why not give it up right here in front of Brianna today?”
Blanca glared daggers at Patsy.
She’d always pegged her as a rude kid with no upbringing, but she hadn’t realized how shrewd she was, flipping the entire situation in Brianna’s favor with a few sharp words.
“Patsy, you’re still young. You don’t get how company management works,” Whitney replied.
“You’re right, Whitney. I don’t have much experience. Luckily, Mr. Levy here does. Brandon, what’s your opinion? The Unity Group was built from scratch by Trina. Could Blanca hand the chairman spot back to Whitney? Is that doable?”
Blanca and her family watched Brandon tensely.
If he pushed for them to relinquish it, Blanca would have to comply, just to keep Darcy on good terms with him, and all their scheming over the years would be for nothing.
Brandon had navigated plenty of tough spots before; he immediately saw that Patsy was wielding him like a tool.
He still didn’t have the full picture on the Unity Group. “I’m not fully briefed on the Unity Group yet. Once Brianna and I discuss it, we can all sit down and hash it out.”
He stayed neutral but signaled he was backing Brianna.
Brianna let out a bitter chuckle. She knew his words weren’t out of concern for her. It was just like Gabrielle, all about preserving appearances in front of others.
The trio had been fidgeting uncomfortably since Patsy called them out, eager to just end the drama.
“Brandon, sorry about this. We’ve spoiled the mood for everyone. We’ll head out now. Brianna, I’m sorry!
