Chapter 29 I Don’t Want Divorce
Chapter 29 I Don’t Want Divorce
After the party wrapped up, Gabrielle, wary that Darcy might use Kendra as a pawn, insisted on taking Kendra home with her.
Brianna thought, ‘Perfect. With Kendra out of the picture, there are no holds barred, and I can finally lay it all out without restraint.’
The moment they walked through the door, the housekeeper approached. Spotting the couple returning together, she looked briefly startled before masking it. “Mrs. Levy, welcome back. Care for some soup?” “No thanks. That’s it for tonight. Head off to bed.” With that, Brianna made her way upstairs alone.
The whole time, Brandon could see her bottling up her feelings.
He knew an outburst was coming, so he trailed her back to the master bedroom.
His face was stone–cold, like he was staring at a total stranger. That icy look of his always left her feeling like a fool.
Brianna plopped down on the sofa at the end of the bed, keeping her distance as she fired off her angry questions.
She said, “Why’d you invite that family? This was my project, my sweat and tears. I didn’t invite them. What made you think you could call the shots for me?”
Brandon thought, ‘What?‘ A hint of surprise flashed in Brandon’s eyes.
This wasn’t her typical playbook. Usually, she’d break down in tears over her emotions and efforts, then lash out at him for being so distant.
But this time, her voice carried a sharp edge, like she was chewing him out for sticking his nose where it didn’t belong.
He said, “Oh? Darcy called this morning asking what time to show up. I had no idea you hadn’t clued them in.”
She asked, “And tonight? Why did that vixen turn up?”
“I honestly don’t know.”
Brandon studied her closely. Her anger seemed genuine, no theatrics in sight.
Brianna was sizing him up too, convinced he wouldn’t bother lying about something like this. “So how did they even find out?”
She wondered to herself, ‘Whitney and his crew run in the same circles as the Sampson family and Pratt family. It wouldn’t take much for word to get around!‘
“I really have no clue.” Brandon stood there with his hands shoved in his pockets, striking that aloof pose, gazing down at her.
Brianna looked up and caught his haughty vibe. He was always this detached during her meltdowns, cold as ice. It repulsed her; she scowled and averted her eyes.
Then, abruptly, she snapped her head back, squinting as she eyed him suspiciously. “Blanca landing the chairman spot at the Unity Group, you swear you had nothing to do with it?”
Brandon had never seen her act quite like this. He furrowed his brow. Now that he thought about it, yeah, he was tangled up in it.
Back in Drokvine, Darcy had begged him to help snag some shares in the Unity Group. He’d pulled it off and later handed them over to her.
“It does involve me a bit…” He began to explain.
Brianna jumped to her feet, her face red with fury, shooting daggers at him.
of Kendra. We’ll meet at the city hall first She said, “I knew it. You’re in on it! Without you aiding and abetting, that family wouldn’t have the guts to strut around like this! Listen up: I want nothing

thing tomorrow!”
She bellowed it all out, then stormed toward the door in a rage.
She was so furious that, right after crossing the threshold, the room started spinning. Her vision went dark, and she blacked out.
When she came to, she was in the hospital.
The housekeeper was nodding off beside her bed.
Brianna pushed herself up, and the movement roused the housekeeper. “Mrs. Levy, are you alright? You scared me half to death”
Brianna asked, “What happened?”
“You passed out.”
“Were you the one who brought me here?”
“No, Mr. Levy did. He’s off talking to your doctor, just rest a little, he’ll be back any minute.”
Brianna thought, ‘He’d better stay gone forever. I never want to lay eyes on that man again! Right on cue, the ward door swung open, and in walked the attending doctor with Brandon. “Oh, you’re up?” the doctor said,
“Doctor, what’s the matter with me?”
“It’s common in early pregnancy. Make sure to rest up, avoid overdoing it, and try not to let your emotions swing too wildly. Head to the OB–GYN for a full checkup first thing tomorrow. The doctor will prescribe what you need, the doctor advised.
It struck like a bolt from the blue, having the pregnancy news dropped right in front of him. Brianna shot Brandon a guilty glance.
But then she thought, ‘He even sides with my enemy against me. Why should I feel guilty? I’ve only made the kind of mistake he himself might commit.
Brandon exchanged a few words with the doctor, who then left. The housekeeper’s eyes kept drifting to Brianna’s face.
She thought, ‘Aren’t they in the midst of a divorce? How is she pregnant with a second child now? Could it be from an affair? Maybe it’s not even the Levy family’s?
‘But all these years, Mrs. Levy has been so deferential in front of Mr. Levy, so deeply in love. She wouldn’t cheat, would she?”
“It’s only 13 weeks, the fetus isn’t stable yet. Let Patsy handle the company stuff for now. I’ll support her. You just focus on resting and nurturing the pregnancy,” Brandon instructed.
As she saw how calmly he spoke, Brianna’s lashes fluttered as her eyes widened, staring at him with suspicion.
She thought, ‘Hey, don’t you want to crunch the numbers? 13 weeks, I moved out in mid–July, that’s over four months ago. Can’t you figure out if this kid is yours? Or is Mr. Levy’s sense of decorum beyond ordinary comprehension?‘
Pushing her guilt aside, Brianna gazed at Brandon in bewilderment.
“What’s wrong? Something on my face?” Brandon’s tone had softened quite a bit as he touched his cheek.
He wasn’t doing the math, but the housekeeper had already figured it out for him.
Now, she eyed the couple with gossip gleaming in her gaze. She thought, ‘What kind of game are these two playing?”
With an outsider in the room, Brianna held back and simply said, “I’m not keeping this baby”
As soon as she’d learned she was pregnant, she’d decided against it. But the company crisis had been too pressing, leaving her no time to handle it.
