Chapter 42
The next two days were pretty uneventful.
Brianna spent her mornings quietly working on her designs in the hotel, wandered around outside in the afternoons, treated herself to a meal at a stylish restaurant in the evenings, and then headed back for a good night’s sleep.
Still, Brianna couldn’t shake off this vague sense of unease, like a pair of eyes was always fixed on her.
Even when she turned around on the crowded streets, she could never spot those eyes in the sea of people.
She wondered if it was just a woman’s intuition, or if she was still spooked from that night.
After thinking it over, she texted Clair to let her know she had already arrived in Seavale.
Clair was delighted and cancelled her work commitments to spend the day with Brianna, taking her shopping and to design exhibitions.
As they chatted about jewelry design concepts, Clair suddenly remembered something and asked, “Brianna, did you bring a gown?”
Brianna facepalmed.
The invitation had mentioned a dress code for the awards ceremony, but she’d been in such a rush that day, she totally forgot about it.
“Seriously, my memory sucks. If you hadn’t brought it up, I would’ve completely missed it,” Brianna grumbled.
“No worries, we’ve still got time. Let’s hit the mall,” Clair said, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
Brianna nodded, ready to go.
They headed to the mall and walked into a luxury boutique, where a sales associate who recognized Clair eagerly approached them.
“Ms. Salazar, hello! It’s been a while,” the sales associate greeted warmly.
“Hi, my friend needs a gown,” Clair replied.
The sales associate discreetly sized up Brianna, instantly noticing her elegant presence, and became even more attentive.
She pulled out two dazzling gowns, both adorned with shimmering pearls and delicate tulle, holding them up for Brianna to admire.
“These are both from our couture collection. They’d look perfect on you,” the sales associate said.
“The dresses are gorgeous,” Brianna said, her eyes full of appreciation, though she didn’t look too excited. “But

honestly, it’s freezing out. I just can’t bring myself to wear a strappy dress right now.”
The sales associate then pulled out a black velvet suit.

The collar and cuffs of the jacket were adorned with pearls and crystals, giving it a subtle yet luxurious vibe.
Brianna’s eyes lit up. She took the suit and headed into the fitting room. When she came out, the sales associate was waiting with a stunning multi-layered black pearl necklace from the same collection, explaining that it was a runway piece.
Brianna took the necklace and tried it on, her aura instantly becoming even more regal and sophisticated.
Clair was mesmerized, unable to take her eyes off her.
The artsy goddess from their school days had shed her youthful innocence, now radiating a serene, aloof grace. Her beauty was simply out of this world.
Just as Brianna was trying on the outfit, a piercing voice echoed from the VIP fitting room area.
“Didn’t I say I didn’t want a lining? Why is there a lining? For a couture gown that costs over 1.5 million dollars, is this how you treat your clients?” the voice snapped.
Brianna found the voice familiar.
Her face fell.
“Ms. Meyers, I’m really sorry, but last time you said you wanted a lining, so we made sure to add it for you,” the sales associate replied, sounding both helpless and a bit aggrieved.
‘So it really is her, Brianna smirked inwardly.
The sound of a slap rang out, loud and clear.
Darcy snapped, her voice sharp as a knife: “Are you out of your mind? Who said you could talk back to me?”
“Sorry, Ms. Meyers, she’s just started. I’ll handle things for you,” the manager said, jumping in to defuse the situation.
As the commotion continued, Brianna just sat there, sneering inwardly.
‘Just like her mother, all that glitters on the outside, but rotten to the core inside,’ she thought.
Brianna sat quietly, listening to Darcy throw her tantrum.
“Sorry about that, the customer next door might have misunderstood something,” the sales associate said, looking embarrassed, clearly worried it might affect their business.
“It’s fine,” Brianna replied perfunctorily, still keeping an ear on the commotion next door.
She wasn’t about to miss Darcy’s meltdown.

“The runway version is sheer. Why did you add a lining for me? Do you think my figure isn’t good enough?” Darcy demanded, her tone sharp and accusatory.
“No, Ms. Meyers, you’re a superstar. You’re outstanding in every way. I’ll have our head tailor make the adjustments right away, how does that sound?” the manager replied, trying to smooth things over.
“How much does Mr. Levy spend on your brand every year? And this is the kind of service you give me?” Darcy snapped.
‘Brandon was the one who ordered it for her?’ Brianna thought.
“Yes, Mr. Levy is our brand’s top VIP nationwide, so we made sure to rush your couture gown,” the manager explained politely.
Clair glanced at Brianna, wondering, ‘Isn’t Brandon her husband? Or is there another Brandon?’
“Glad you understand.” Darcy’s tone softened a bit.
“I need this for the jewelry design awards ceremony on Friday night, so get it fixed right now!” Darcy snapped, refusing to back down.
“Tell the tailor to work around the clock. If there’s even the slightest mistake, I’ll make sure Brandon takes it up with you!” she threatened.
The manager kept agreeing with her, doing his best to soothe her mood.
Once Brianna heard Darcy had left, she finally relaxed and asked the sales associate to ring up her purchase.
While waiting to pay, she noticed a girl in the staff break room, tearfully crying as someone tried to comfort her.
“Could you check for me? Was that Ms. Meyers’s order placed under Brandon Levy’s account?” Brianna asked.
The sales associate looked a bit uneasy. “Sorry, Miss, we have to keep customer information confidential.”
“I’m Brandon’s wife. I just want to confirm if it was his account,” Brianna said.
The sales associate immediately perked up and pulled up the records.
“Yes, it’s Mr. Brandon Levy from Seavale. The gown was originally ordered at our Seavale store, then sent here for size adjustments,” the sales associate explained.
“Oh, I see,” Brianna replied with a polite smile.
The sales associate looked like she was itching to witness the real wife tear that fake innocent apart right in front of her.
“Oh, and by the way, it was paid for with Mr. Levy’s card,” the sales associate added.
Brianna’s expression didn’t change at all. She just smiled, nodded, and walked out.

As soon as they stepped out of the store, Clair looked at her with concern. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” Brianna nodded. “So, where are we eating?”

Clair studied her face, trying to read her emotions, but all she saw was calm, like none of it had anything to do
with her.
Seeing how worried Clair was, Brianna explained, “I’m getting a divorce.”
She looked completely unfazed.
Clair was stunned for a second, then practically bounced with joy.
“You can’t come to Seavale and skip Zapernese food,” Clair said, grinning so hard it looked like nothing could wipe the smile off her face.
They drove for over an hour before finally pulling up to a Zapernese restaurant way out in the suburbs.
The place was decked out in a traditional style, simple, peaceful, and full of that old-school charm.
They’d barely stepped inside when, out of nowhere, they bumped into some familiar faces.
Brianna smirked. ‘Seriously, what are the odds?’
