Chapter 89
After walking out of the Meyers family mansion, Brianna stayed silent.
She followed Brandon into the car, her mind still blank.
Brianna was dazed and confused, barely aware of what was happening.
In her mind, Brandon had always been cold–hearted and aloof, but he still acted like a proper gentleman, keeping up that elite vibe.
But today, it hit her.
The man she’d shared a bed with for seven years was actually this heartless.
“Did I scare you?” Brandon asked softly, noticing her dazed expression.
Brianna gave him a conflicted look.
She sighed. “No.”
One could never truly know what lies beneath a person’s surface.
At this moment, she felt like the man beside her was a complete stranger.
‘Is this really the man I’ve loved all these years? Why does he suddenly feel so unfamiliar?‘ Brianna wondered.
“I’m sorry I scared you,” Brandon said softly, his voice gentle. “I won’t let anyone hurt you.”
Brianna nodded quietly.
She couldn’t help but scoff inwardly. ‘Isn’t this whole mess his doing?” she thought./
When she heard Brandon say he wouldn’t hesitate to personally rip the baby out of Darcy, Brianna felt her legs go weak.
It was both his sheer brutality and her own helplessness that shook her.
‘Who could guarantee he wouldn’t be just as cruel to me one day?‘ Brianna thought.
Brianna shook her head. ‘Guess I might need to rethink that clause about taking half the assets in the divorce agreement,‘ she thought.
‘No way am I going to mess with this devil incarnate over some money!/she told herself.
Just as Brianna was lost in thought, her phone rang.
It was Tristan.
“Hello?” Brianna answered.
“I just got off the plane. Where are you?” Tristan sounded excited.
“I’m heading home. What’s up?” Brianna replied.
“Okay, I’ll come find you at your place,” Tristan said.
“No,” Brianna replied uncertainly, shooting a quick glance at Brandon. “I’m on my way home.”

She deliberately emphasized the word “home.”
“Oh,” Tristan said, realizing she meant the place she shared with Brandon. There was a hint of disappointment in his voice.
“What’s wrong?” Brianna asked softly.
“I’ve got something to talk to you about. Can you step outside for a minute?” Tristan said, his voice tinged with/reluctance.
Brianna didn’t answer right away. She cast Brandon a hesitant look.
That look made Brandon’s heart skip a beat.
‘Is she afraid of me?‘ he wondered.
He found himself annoyed without even realizing it. He just couldn’t act normal around her today. Every time he faced hey his composure slipped.
“Go on, maybe he actually has something important to say,” Brandon said, sounding indifferent.
Brianna studied his face. He wasn’t joking, and there was no trace of irritation in his expression.
“Alright, just call me when you get to town,” Brianna said, breathing a sigh of relief.
The car raced through the city, making its way to the Levy estate.
Brianna almost asked to be let out several times, but every time, the words stuck in her throat.
“Go spend some time with Kendra,” Brandon said, catching her hesitation. “Let Tristan come over to the house.”
He quickly added, “Or have him call you when he’s at the gate.”
Brianna nodded.
Her heart was tangled up in emotions she couldn’t even begin to describe.
When they got home, Kendra’s eyes lit up as she saw her mom walk in.
She called out in surprise, her voice rising, “Mom!”
‘I thought it would be forever before I saw Mom again, but she’s really back–and Dad’s with her, too! Kendra thought, amazed.
Brianna hugged her daughter close and gently smoothed her hair.
“Did you eat yet?” she asked.
“I ate at school,” Kendra said, grabbing her mom’s hand. “Mom, we’ve got a parent–teacher conference next week. Will you be able to come?”
“Why don’t
you ask Dad if he’s available first?” Brianna said, her first instinct to refuse.
But when she saw Kendra’s eyes dim with disappointment, she quickly added, “Dad’s in charge of your school stuff. If he can’t go, I will.”
Brianna couldn’t figure out why she was feeling this way.
Today, her heart felt unusually tender, and it was like she could break at any moment.
Brandon, seeing the tension between Brianna and Kendra, jumped in to ease things for Brianna. “Let’s see when I’m free,

then we’ll figure it out, alright?”
Kendra’s smile spread across her face again.

Kendra grabbed her mom’s hand and eagerly started telling her all about what happened at school.
Judy hustled around, getting dinner ready in no time. The three of them gathered at the table, making it feel like a real family meal.
Kendra had already eaten, so she was just hanging out, wanting to spend time and talk with her parents.
Brianna barely paid attention to her daughter’s rambling, just nodding along absentmindedly while her thoughts wandered far away.
Brandon saw her drifting off, and his brows furrowed without him even realizing.
‘Is she eager to meet up with Tristan?‘ he wondered.
Dinner was only halfway done.
Brianna’s phone rang.
It was Tristan.
“Hey, I’m at the front gate of your place. Come out and meet me,” Tristan called.
Brianna set down her fork and knife, said, “I’m stepping out for a moment,” and rushed out the door.
Watching her rush out the door, Brandon felt that same inexplicable frustration welling up inside him again.
‘Is she really in such a hurry to see him?‘ he thought.
Brianna’s chest felt tight, like the air was squeezing her and she could barely breathe.
She just wanted to find a way out, anywhere she could catch her breath.
She rushed to the front gate, practically jogging.
From a distance, she spotted Tristan leaning against his car, hands buried in his pockets.
The streetlight cut a sharp line across his shoulders, and his collar was undone just enough to show a glimpse of his collarbone.
Tristan spotted Brianna coming over.
He grinned at her, his smile warm and sunny.
Tristan greeted her with a cheeky, “Miss me?” His tone was full of playful mischief.
“Give me a break,” Brianna said, unable to stop herself from smiling. Tristan’s sunny grin made her worries fade, at least for
a moment,
“Alright, spill it. What’s going on?” she asked.
