Too Late To Love Me I Already Left With His Twins (Lydia and Dave) novel Chapter 319

Lydia POV

I woke up with a headache so bad that my first instinct was to close my eyes and negotiate with my brain.

Unfortunately, my brain was not interested in negotiations.

The pain sat heavily behind my forehead, throbbing with every little movement I made. I lay still for a few minutes, staring at the ceiling and wondering what exactly I had done to deserve this particular brand of suffering. I hadn’t been out drinking, I hadn’t spent the night partying, and I was fairly certain I hadn’t offended any supernatural beings lately.

So, what was the problem?

I reached for my phone on the bedside table, intending to message my doctor. After the accident, he’d specifically instructed me to report any persistent headaches or unusual symptoms, and I had every intention of following his advice. I wasn’t interested in playing the brave woman who ignored her body until it decided to embarrass her in public.

Besides, the headaches weren’t the only thing bothering me. I’d been feeling unusually tired lately, too. Not the ordinary kind of tiredness that came from a long day of work or dealing with two children who considered silence a personal failure, but the sort that made me want to close my eyes in the middle of the afternoon and wake up three business days later.

I frowned, rubbing my temple gently. I would message him after putting my thoughts together. I had started keeping a journal after the accident, partly because I wanted to keep track of my recovery and partly because I had decided that if anything remotely similar ever happened again, I wanted to have a record of how I had been feeling beforehand.

I know. Very dramatic.

But there was a difference between being prepared and being paranoid, and I preferred to believe I was firmly in the first category.

I reached for the journal on my bedside table and flipped through the pages until I found the section where I’d been recording my daily symptoms, appointments, and other things I didn’t want to forget. I was about to add the headache to my list when my phone beeped.

Anna.

Of course.

Because apparently, the universe had decided that I wasn’t allowed to complete a single task without somebody interrupting me.

I picked up the phone and swiped across the screen to answer her video call. Her face appeared almost immediately, bright and cheerful, with the kind of energy I would have found offensive if I hadn’t known her for years.

“Hola,” I greeted, adjusting the pillow behind my back.

“Hi, babes! How are you doing?”

I narrowed my eyes at the screen.

“Hmm. I’m chill. I was actually planning my to-do list before your call came in.”

Anna smiled.

I studied her face for another second before sitting up slightly. “Wait a minute. Why are you suddenly asking me how I’m doing? That’s suspicious.”

She gasped, pressing a hand to her chest as though I’d just accused her of committing a felony.

“Lydia, please! Are you trying to tell me I’m not a cute and kind friend? I’m so pained right now.”

I stared at her.
