“Because this is exactly what was missing, and I couldn’t put my finger on it. We kept talking about more influencers, bigger billboards, and increasing our reach. But we weren’t asking what we wanted people to feel, remember, or do after seeing the brand.”

I smiled. “That’s why strategy comes before tactics. Before you spend more money, decide what you want to achieve and what perception you want to build. Then choose the activities that will help you get there.”

There was a short silence.

Then Anna practically shouted, “YES! EXACTLY! That’s it! That’s what was missing!”

I pulled the phone slightly away from my ear and laughed. “Anna, please. My hearing is very important to me.”

“I’m sorry, babesss, but I’m excited! I’m going to take this back to my team. We need to review the current strategy, identify what is working, and then build something more cohesive. And I need you to help me think through the campaign idea when we get to that stage.”

“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Start with an audit of what you already have. Look at the performance of the existing campaigns, identify the gaps, and talk to some of your customers. We need to understand what they currently think of the brand before we decide how to change or strengthen that perception.”

I shook my head, laughing.

“Anyway, babe, I need to go downstairs soon. I promised myself I’d spend time with the kids before dinner, and I don’t want to miss that.”
