Chapter 182: Boss we are being watched

"Marry?"

Ivy stared at Xander, the word echoing in her mind.

For a moment, she simply gaped at him, as though the idea itself was too foreign to process.

Xander’s smile slowly faded.

"What?" he asked, searching her face. "Don’t tell me you never intended to marry me in the future."

His question pulled Ivy out of her daze.

She blinked several times before letting out a nervous laugh.

"That’s... a huge step, Xander."

She lowered her gaze.

"We’ve only recently become part of each other’s lives. Yes, we’re Leo’s parents, but beyond that, there are still so many things we don’t know about one another."

She looked back into his eyes.

"How can you be so sure I’m the right person for you?"

The question carried more weight than Xander realized.

Deep inside, Raven’s heart trembled.

All her life, she had dreamed of finding someone she could truly love, building a peaceful family, and raising children in a home filled with warmth rather than violence.

Yet fate had played a cruel trick on her.

She now lived in another woman’s body.

What if one day Ivy’s memories fully returned?

What if Ivy herself returned?

Would Raven disappear forever?

Would Xander remember the woman she truly was, or would she vanish without leaving a trace?

The uncertainty frightened her more than any battlefield ever had.

Xander watched the conflict flicker across her face.

He didn’t know the thoughts racing through her mind, but he understood hesitation.

After all, their story had never been ordinary.

It hadn’t begun with dates or flowers.

It had begun with one chaotic night neither of them had expected.

When Ivy disappeared after Leo’s birth, he had respected what he believed was her decision. Though disappointed, he accepted that perhaps she wasn’t ready to become a mother.

Then she returned.

She admitted her regrets and asked for another chance.

For Leo’s sake, he opened the door.

Not because he trusted her completely—but because every child deserved the love of both parents.

He knew better than anyone what it meant to lose that chance.

He still remembered the day he watched his own parents sacrifice themselves to save him.

No child should carry memories like that.

Slowly, Xander lifted his hand and cupped Ivy’s cheek.

"When you first came back," he admitted, "I was convinced you had another motive."

A small smile crossed his face.

"When your foster mother accepted the agreement so easily, it only strengthened my suspicions."

Ivy listened quietly.

"But I still wanted to give you an opportunity," he continued. "I wanted to see whether you had really returned because of Leo."

He paused.

"And then came the incident with Clara."

His thumb brushed lightly across her skin.

"She accused you, and instead of defending yourself, you admitted your mistakes. You weren’t trying to protect your pride—you were protecting Leo."

His voice softened.

"You weren’t thinking about yourself at all."

Ivy’s chest tightened.

She remembered that day vividly.

The guilt she carried from her past, especially the memory of shooting Xander as Raven, had never truly faded.

She would always be grateful that Ivy had saved his life afterward.

Xander leaned closer until their foreheads touched.

"In that moment," he whispered, "I realized something."

"I didn’t have a name for it then."

"But now I do."

His eyes remained locked on hers.

"You were the one."

Tears gathered in Ivy’s eyes.

She didn’t even try to hide them.

Xander smiled gently.

"I don’t need us to rush into marriage."

"I don’t need an answer today."

"I only know one thing."

He squeezed her hand.

"Leo and I can’t imagine our lives without you."

His words carried neither pressure nor expectation.

Only certainty.

"I see my future with you, Ivy."

Emotion overwhelmed her.

Before she could respond, Xander leaned forward and placed a tender kiss against her forehead.

Then another against her temple.

Finally, he rested his forehead against hers once more.

"So take all the time you need," he murmured. "I’ll wait."

A faint chuckle escaped him.

"And while I’m waiting, I’ll keep falling in love with you every single day."

"I’ll make sure you never doubt how precious you are."
