Zachary pushed the water borde away and let his voice drop low. “Why didn’t you tell me you were leaving?”
“I did tell you.” Matthew looked genuinely puzzled as he explained himself. “You kept saying ‘mmmm. A bunch of times, even.
Zachary had nothing to say to that.
Technically true. But that really wasn’t the point here.
“Then why didn’t you wake me up to come with you?” he pressed.
Matthew leaned in close, raising both hands to shield Zachary’s head from the sun overhead. “You were exhausted.
“I was talking to you, and you just kept shoving my face away.”
Zachary’s mouth opened, then closed again. He tilted his head back and glared up at Matthew instead.
Matthew finally pieced it all together. “Wait, were you out here looking for me?”
Zachary kept his expression perfectly blank. “Nope, just had nothing better to do, figured I’d come catch
some sun.”
Matthew didn’t take offense at all. He leaned in for a quick kiss. “I remembered the way here. I wasn’t going to get lost.
“And nobody around here could’ve beaten me anyway.”
Zachary thought to himself, That’s because you’ve never seen what a firearm can do. Forget a black panther, even a dragon would have to think twice about that.
“What’s going on? Did something happen?” The designer hurried over, trailing an entourage of photographers, stylists, makeup artists, the whole crew.
Zachary instinctively pulled Matthew back behind him, eyeing the group warily.

The designer’s eyes landed on Zachary’s face, and a familiar spark of excitement lit up behind them, like he’d just stumbled across yet another dream model. He held out his business card eagerly and launched into an enthusiastic introduction of his studio.
Zachary pulled out his phone and did a quick search, and his eyebrows shot up. Sure enough, this city was full of hidden talent in every corner.
Matthew noticed how long this guy had been talking to Zachary, and his mood soured fast. He took Zachary’s hand, his voice carrying a clear edge of displeasure. “He’s my mate.
“Are we still doing this shoot or not?”
The designer had spent years in the fashion world and had seen every kind of person imaginable. None of

this fazed him in the slightest, and he kept right on smiling. “Of course we’re still shooting! We’ve got two more outfits to get through.
“The next location is in the building right next door.”
Zachary logged into his secondary messaging account of the tablet back home, then stepped off to the side and video called Jaden from his phone. The screen filled almost entirely with the cub’s face pressed close to the camera, his two big eyes peering out.
Jaden tilted his head. “Sire?”
Zachary smiled. “Hey, Jaden. Your Alpha and I might be getting home a little later than planned.
“There’s food in the fridge, so go ahead and grab something to tide you over. I’ll bring you back something good to eat.”
Jaden nodded. “Okay.”
Matthew had picked up on modern conveniences faster than anyone expected. He’d already figured out how to ride the elevator and use a key card on his own. The moment they walked in, he scanned the room and found Zachary the comfiest looking couch in the place.
“Sit here and wait for me.”
Zachary reached up out of habit to ruffle Matthew’s hair, but stopped halfway, suddenly remembering the styled hairdo someone had carefully put together for him, and pulled his hand back:
Matthew caught his hand instead and pressed a kiss to it. “Once this is done, we’ll head home together.”
Zachary’s eyes curved into a soft smile. “Alright. Go on, then.”
The lighting setup was ready, and Matthew walked over and took his spot. He genuinely looked like he belonged there.
While the shoot went on, Zachary settled onto the couch nearby, watching this completely different version of Matthew with a strange, swirling feeling in his chest. He picked up his phone and quietly snapped photo after photo.

One of the assistants brought over a cup of coffee, and Zachary smiled and thanked her. But the coffee only made his stomach growl louder, and it hit him belatedly that he hadn’t eaten a single thing since waking up that morning.
The air conditioning inside was running full blast, and Zachary started to feel the chill. He pulled Matthew’s jacket around himself and curled up in the corner of the couch. After a while, the hunger became unbearable, and he decided to head downstairs to find a convenience store for something to eat
The moment he stood up, Matthew, who’d just wrapped his first outfit of the afternoon, strode straight over and leaned in close. “What’s wrong?
“Is the couch uncomfortable?”
Zachary shook his head. “I’m hungry. Going to grab something to eat.

Do you want anything?”
Matthew frowned, studying the pale, drained look on Zachary’s face, He reached out and previed his hand to Zachary’s forehead out of habit. It felt cool, no fever. I come with you
The designer, desperate to lock Matthew and Zachary in as regular models, ever, on a part time basis. jumped at the opening. “I already ordered an afternoon snack spread!
“It’ll be here in ten minutes.”
Zachary, honestly relieved at the thought of not having to move, sank back into the couch. Matthew noticed how cold his hands had gotten and asked the staff for warm water and a small blanket.
The afternoon spread turned out to be huge. Matthew immediately pushed his own portion over to Zachary, then sat down right beside him and watched him eat without taking his eyes off him for even a second.
Zachary started feeling self conscious under that gaze and shoved a cookie into Matthew’s mouth instead “Eat some too, come on.
“This is way too much for just me.”
The designer seized the moment. “We’ve actually got a matching couple’s set lined up after this too, if you’re interested in shooting it.
“The pay would be even better.”
Matthew understood “pay” meant a lot of money, but he wasn’t about to let this guy get any closer to Zachary, and the look he leveled at the designer was sharp enough to make the man visibly flinch.
But the designer’s enthusiasm was apparently bulletproof. He clapped his hands together, practically thrilled. “Yes! That look right there! Hold onto that for the next shot!”
Matthew was starting to wonder if something was seriously wrong with this man’s head.
Once the entire shoot wrapped up, the designer brought over thick stack of red bills. He’d remembered that Matthew didn’t have a phone, so he’d specifically sent someone to the bank to withdraw brand new cash just for him.
