“I peek over the blanket and mumble, “Descendants.
“Both boys pause.Leon blinks. “You mean… the Disney thingy one?“Jace perks up. “The one with
the villain kids? I’m down.
“Leon throws his head back. “No. Please no. I am begging.”
“Oh you know. Leon couldn’t handle the emotion in this. Hey. Didn’t you cry during Coco?” Jace
says, turning the remote toward the screen as he smirks.Leon freezes.
I look between them.
“What,” Leon says flatly.Jace doesn’t even pause. “Yeah. You sniffled like five times, and then full on sobbed when Miguel sang to his grandma. I have videos.”
“You SWORE to NEVER BRING THAT UP–!“Leon lunges across the room like a launched missile, and Jace shrieks as he drops the remote and scrambles off the couch.
“HELP–HE’S LOST HIS MIND–!“I just stare wide–eyed as Leon tackles Jace to the carpet, both of them wrestling like five–year–olds while the TV plays the Descendants intro behind them. There’s flailing, Jace yelling something about a “sensitive king” and Leon screaming “SAY COCO ONE MORE TIME-!”
“GET OFF ME—”
“YOU GET OFF ME-“And I don’t mean to.
But the corner of my mouth twitches.
Then curls up.
And the smallest giggle escapes my lips.
Before you know it half the movie has gone through
And somehow, Jace and Leon are still bickering.Leon insists Evie is “carrying the whole plot,” and Jace is arguing that Carlos “literally invented the dog translator and deserves more respect.
“They’re half–shouting now, gesturing so wildly is a miracle no one’s taken out the popcorn bowl.
I just sit there quietly, munching popcorn, the blanket wrapped around me like armor. The chaos should be overwhelming.
But instead…
It feels kind of nice.Like noise that isn’t the dangerous ones I’m used to.
