Chapter 139
It might work.
I know it’ll hurt.
But it might work.
“Aurora.
“Damion’s voice cuts in. It’s wary now, like he can feel something’s shifted.
I don’t look at him.
“Hey,” he says again, louder this time, his voice strained. “What are you-“Before I can think, I
grab the chain and twist toward the wall.
Damion stiffens. “Aurora.
“I don’t answer.
“Aurora,” he says again, louder this time, his voice confused. “What are you-“I slam the my
chained wrists against the wall.
The sound detonates through the cell – a jagged, metallic crack that splits the silence like glass shattering. Pain doesn’t just shoot up my arm; it erupts, a wildfire ripping through muscle and bone, searing every nerve raw. My scream rips from my throat before I even know I’m making it – hoarse, cracked, tearing my voice to shreds.
“Aurora!” Damion’s voice isn’t steady anymore; it’s frantic, breaking. He lunges forward, chains rattling like a thousand snakes, but the cuffs yank him back. “Stop! What are you doing?!”
“I have to “My voice splinters like my skin, shredded and burning. My throat tastes like copper.
“I have to get out—”
“You’re gonna break your arm!“It hurts. It hurts. It hurts. It hurts.
The thought becomes a chant, a rhythm pounding in my skull as loud as my heart.
“I don’t care!” I slam it again. This time the pain isn’t a spark but a detonation, exploding outward, blinding me. White blooms burst behind my eyelids like camera flashes. My lungs spasm; each breath comes jagged, tearing at my ribs. “I don’t care!” I hit it again. The impact rips through my wrist, making white spots bloom behind my eyes. My breath comes out in loud, broken sobs. “I can’t I can’t stay here-”
“Fucking stop! Just stop, please. Estrella!” he yells again, but I don’t stop.
Each blow makes my bones feel weaker, like they’re splintering inside me. I sob and choke on the sound, but I hit again anyway.

The metal digs deeper into my skin. Something cracks -I feel it, hear it, feel it again and I cry out, nearly dropping to my knees. My stomach lurches violently and bile rises up my throat; I clamp my teeth shut, almost vomiting from the pain but swallowing it back down as tears sting my eyes.
“Please!” Damion’s voice cracks. “Estrella, you’re burting yourself it isn’t worth this much-
“It is! I have to go home, Damion!” I sob. “They’re waiting for me!“He curses under his breath, the kind of word I’ve only heard him say when he’s scared. “You’re insane,” he screams, voice trembling. “Completely insane.
“The next hit sends lightning up my arm. My wrist twists wrong – horribly wrong
so loud my throat tears. Damion’s yelling, begging, but I can barely hear him over the rush of my
own heartbeat and the rattle of metal.
A wet, dull crack, followed by a screaming pain so sharp it’s almost cold. My wrist bends wrong. My hand goes numb and hot all at once. Blood runs down my arm, warm and slick, pooling under the cuffs. My vision flashes white, then black, then white again.
I slam again, but my arm can’t even lift right. The chain jerks; my shoulder tears with the effort. The pain is so big it drowns everything – sound, sight, breath. I scream, high and raw, until my voice cuts off. My knees buckle. I nearly collapse, arms trembling, chains rattling in the air. My whole body is shaking, skin clammy, lips numb.
Then, with one last hit – my wrist limps as my screams fade into sobs.
I shake, body trembling uncontrollably, and start to pull. My fingers slip through blood and sweat, forcing through the metal.
The broken bones of my wrist, twisting and contorting violently in my hand in ways that shouldn’t be possible.
I can feel skin tearing. Bone grinding. My whole body shakes as I wrench one wrist free. Then the
other.
Damion freezes. His breath catches. “No way,” he whispers.
The chains clatter to the ground as I sob in agony.

“It is! I have to go home, Damion!” I sob. “They’re waiting for me!“He curses under his breath, the kind of word I’ve only heard him say when he’s scared. “You’re insane,” he screams, voice trembling. “Completely insane.
