I freeze mid-step, my heart pounding furiously as I pivot toward the sound. That unmistakable voice—Aurora. But this time, it’s transformed. I’ve never witnessed her in this light before.
Not gentle.
Not shy.
Not the apologetic girl we’ve tiptoed around, always careful not to push her too hard, as if she might crumble under the slightest pressure.
No, this is something entirely different.
“What the hell?” I mutter under my breath, an unsettling knot forming in my stomach. Something is terribly amiss.
