**Chapter 6**
**Quiet Hurts Too**
**Aurora’s POV**
The stillness in the room is deafening, wrapping around me like a thick fog that refuses to lift.
Perched on the edge of the bed, I tuck my legs beneath me, feeling the fabric of my hoodie as I grip its sleeves tightly. The sheets are blindingly white, immaculate in their cleanliness, as if they have never been subjected to the chaos of the world outside.
I hesitate to disturb their pristine state.
I don’t want to disrupt anything.
After what feels like an eternity, I hear the faint sound of footsteps echoing in the hallway. They’re not loud, but they carry a weight that makes my heart race.
Then there’s a knock—just one, firm and unyielding.
Luka swings the door open without waiting for an invitation, his eyes darting to me with a disdainful flick, as if I’m something unpleasant he accidentally stepped on.
“Andrei says we’re eating in an hour. Don’t be late.”
He delivers the message with a casual indifference, turning on his heel as if he’s already forgotten I exist.
But something deep within me—stupid, aching, and clinging to a thread of hope—stirs.
Maybe if I just put in a little effort.
Maybe if I just… try.
I swallow hard, my throat dry. “Luka?”
He freezes momentarily, but doesn’t turn around.
I press on, my voice barely breaking through the silence.
“I… I like your name. It’s pretty.”
I recall the fleeting thought I had earlier about his name, and a spark of determination ignites within me. If I can’t forge a connection with Leon, perhaps I can at least understand his twin a little better?
Finally, he turns his head just enough to shoot me a glare over his shoulder.
“What do you want?”
“I don’t—nothing,” I stammer, feeling myself shrink back, the weight of his presence pressing down on me.
“I just thought… maybe we could talk?”
As he steps back into the room, his movements are slow and cold, each step calculated.
“Why?”
