**Stars Refuse To Blink by Asa River Knox**
**Ear-Shattering**
**Luka’s POV**
There she stands, a statue of stillness, her eyes locked onto something distant, as if she’s gazing through a veil of fog that I cannot penetrate. It’s as if she’s trapped in a realm that is entirely her own, ensnared behind an invisible wall that keeps me at bay.
I squint, trying desperately to read the thoughts swirling in her mind.
“What’s your problem now?” I ask, my voice cutting through the thick silence like a knife. Yet, she remains unmoved, an immovable force. Not even a flicker of recognition crosses her face. My frustration swells, rising like an unstoppable tide within me. Is this some elaborate act? A display of guilt that I cannot comprehend?
With a surge of determination, I step closer, my hand reaching out to grasp her arm—firmly, but with care, hoping to bridge the chasm that has formed between us.
“Hey—”
In that instant, it’s as if a dam has burst within her.
A sound erupts from her throat, raw and unfiltered.
It’s more than just a scream; it’s a primal wail that claws its way out from the depths of her soul, a visceral expression of anguish that reverberates through the very walls of our home. The sound is chilling, echoing like something out of a horror film, as if she’s being torn apart from the inside out.
In a heartbeat, she breaks free from my grasp and bolts away.
Gone. As if some unseen terror were chasing her.
I stand there, frozen, my hand still extended in the air, bewilderment washing over me. What just happened? My heart races, pounding in my ears like a war drum, each beat a reminder of the chaos that has just unfolded.
I gaze down the now-empty hallway where she disappeared, a sense of dread pooling in my stomach like a stone.
I’ve heard shouts before—yelling, screaming, desperate pleas for help.
But I’ve never encountered anything like that.
**Aurora’s POV**
I have no clear destination; I just run.
