**Title: Stars Refuse To Blink by Asa River Knox**
**Chapter 73: I Survived**
**Aurora’s POV**
The final bell resonates through the school, and I feel an overwhelming wave of relief wash over me. I did it. I survived my first day. The weight of anxiety that had clung to me since morning begins to dissipate, and I practically sink into my chair as if it were a lifeboat in a stormy sea.
As I gather my things, I wave goodbye to Kira, Jade, Liam, Mia, and Zoe. The moment we step outside, the warmth of the golden afternoon sun envelops us like a comforting blanket. Their laughter fills the air, a delightful melody that drowns out the remnants of the chaotic school day. They’re animatedly discussing some ridiculous comment Liam made during history class, and I can’t help but smile at their camaraderie. Plans for snack trades tomorrow are already being tossed around, a simple yet cherished ritual.
Zoe suddenly pulls me into a quick side-hug, her infectious energy a stark contrast to my earlier nerves. “See you tomorrow, Aurora!” she chirps, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
As they scatter across the parking lot in pairs, promising to text and sit together again, the cacophony of school life fades into the background. Just then, my gaze lands on Jace. He’s leaning casually against his sleek red car, arms crossed, his sharp eyes scanning the crowd until they lock onto mine. An unexpected flutter of nerves dances in my stomach as he straightens up, effortlessly cool, and unlocks the passenger door without uttering a word.
I take a deep breath, clutching the straps of my backpack tighter than necessary, and walk toward him. “Hey,” he greets, his voice low and steady. “Survive?”
A small smile breaks free on my lips, a flicker of confidence igniting within me. “Yeah…”
He opens the door for me, waiting patiently until I slide into the seat before making his way around to the driver’s side. Once inside, the car is enveloped in a cocoon of quiet, interrupted only by the soft hum of the engine and the gentle strains of music filtering through the radio.
