**TITLE: Stars Refuse To Blink by Asa River Knox**
**Chapter 81: After The Whistle**

**Aurora’s POV**

The tryouts had finally come to a close, leaving me feeling as if I had been trampled by a herd of stampeding elephants. Every muscle in my body ached, and my lungs felt like they were on fire with each ragged breath I took. I clutched my bag tightly, the fabric digging into my fingers, a small comfort amidst the chaos. Just as I was about to make my escape, a rough hand clamped down on my arm, its grip unyielding and fierce.

“Going somewhere, bitch?” The voice that sliced through the air was unmistakable—Savina. It was cold and sharp, like a blade pressed against my skin, and I felt my heart race in response to the threat.

I shook my head, my voice trembling as I pleaded, “Please… just let me go.” My words felt weak, almost futile in the face of her malice.

Her laughter rang out, cruel and echoing through the empty gymnasium like a haunting melody. “No,” she snapped, her tone dripping with disdain. “You think I’m just going to let you walk away? You don’t belong here.”

As if on cue, her two friends from tryouts closed in around me, blocking any glimmer of hope for escape. My heart pounded so loud in my ears that I could barely hear anything else. They dragged me into the suffocating confines of the locker room, the walls closing in around me, the air thick with the stench of sweat and fear.

Before I could even gather my thoughts, Savina shoved me hard against a metal locker. The impact was brutal, and stars danced in my vision as my head collided violently with the cold metal. The clang reverberated through me, a harsh reminder of my vulnerability.

A sharp, stinging slap exploded across my cheek, and I could almost see the red handprint blooming on my skin. I gasped, the pain sharp and immediate.

“Beg all you want,” she sneered, her voice dripping with contempt, “But it won’t save you. Not after you dared to try out for the team. My team!”

Desperation clawed at my throat as I tried to shake off the tears threatening to spill. My voice cracked as I whispered, “Please, stop… I didn’t—didn’t do anything!” But my pleas fell on deaf ears. Why would they care?

Fists began to rain down on me, slamming into my ribs with relentless force. Each hit knocked the breath from my lungs, leaving me gasping and choking, my cries reduced to strangled sounds that echoed in the small space.

Blood bubbled in my mouth as my lip split open, the warm, metallic taste flooding my senses. One of Savina’s friends viciously yanked my hair, pulling my head back as if to expose me further.

“Fucking slut! Going after my Luca!” she spat, venom lacing her words.

I tried to scramble away, but a heavy tennis shoe pinned my hand down, pressing into the tile and scraping my skin raw. I let out a strangled yelp as pain shot through me, my hand crushed beneath the weight of the shoe.

Then the kicks came—hard, brutal, and relentless—targeting my stomach and sides. Pain ripped through me like wildfire, and I doubled over, tears flooding my eyes as I begged once more, “Please… please…”

Savina didn’t even spare me a glance. She grabbed my arm and yanked me upright with a roughness that made my head spin.
