Chapter 4
“Oh, Vincent, I couldn’t! This was meant for Lindsay…”
“It’s fine. They’re right–it suits you perfectly. I picked wrong for Lindsay. Keep it. Consider it a reward.”
A reward for saving his reputation.
The business partner looked at me with disgust:
“Is she seriously still here? Vincent, having this eyesore around is going to kill my mood for our deal.”
Vincent walked over, lowering his voice:
“Lindsay, why don’t you head home? Sorry, but I really need to close this deal tonight. Just bear with me–I’ll set the record straight with everyone later, okay?”
As he turned away, he hesitated:
“And maybe… stick to long sleeves and high necklines from now on.”
I caught the disgust he tried to hide in his eyes.
Suddenly I wanted to laugh. Did he forget who gave me all these scars in the first place?
That night, I woke to Vincent kicking down my door.
He yanked me out of bed, furious:
“Just because I didn’t claim you tonight, because I gave Bianca that necklace–you had to hurt her like this?!”
Before I could react, he dragged me to Bianca’s room.
Her slashed–open sheets were crawling with dozens of leeches, slimy and revolting.
“Lindsay, I wasn’t trying to steal your necklace or your place! Vincent’s reputation was at stake–what choice did I have? But how could you be so cruel, putting these blood–sucking things in my bed?”
“I’m carrying Vincent’s baby! Thank God I found them in time… Here, take the necklace back. Just leave me alone, please?”
I looked at Vincent:
“I didn’t do this. Check the security footage.”

But he wasn’t having it:
“Don’t need to check. I know exactly how petty you are. Thought prison taught you some humility, but you’re worse
than ever. Should’ve left you in there for years!”
“Either way, you need to learn a lesson tonight–so you’ll never hurt Bianca again!”
Thirty minutes later, Vincent’s men brought in a barrel taller than my waist, holding their noses.
It was packed with leeches. After they dumped the whole thing into the bathtub, he ordered:
“Hold her down.”
I locked eyes with him:
“Vincent, you’re going to regret this.”
“The only thing I’ll regret is not teaching you sooner!”
They threw me into that tub.
Hundreds of leeches swarmed me instantly, covering every inch of my skin.
The water turned crimson in seconds.
I blacked out fast.
When I came to, I was on the living room couch getting a blood transfusion.
Almost forgot–Vincent and I have the same blood type.
He stared at me for a long time before sighing:
“Why are you so damn stubborn? Just apologize, show some remorse–I wouldn’t have to do this to you.”
What was this supposed to be? The classic slap–and–candy routine?
I ripped the IV out and stumbled upstairs, Vincent’s frustrated voice trailing behind me:
“Let this be a lesson, Lindsay! I don’t want there to be a next time!”
At the top of the stairs, I ran into Bianca carrying a bowl of porridge.
“Oh! Lindsay, you’re awake? I made you some blood–replenishing porridge. Drink it while it’s hot.”
I stared her down:

“Quite the performance. Is this how all homewreckers operate?”
Hearing that, Bianca dropped the innocent act, smirking quietly:
“Honestly didn’t think you’d make it out of that place alive. But so what? In love, the one who isn’t wanted is the real
homewrecker.”
