Chapter 5
She glanced behind me:
“Don’t believe me? Let me show you.”
She suddenly smashed the bowl in her hands and screamed as she threw herself from the wheelchair toward the stairs.
Vincent rushed up just in time to catch her.
He walked over to me, face like thunder.
The next second, he grabbed my collar and sent me tumbling down the stairs.
Blood streamed from my scalp.
“Lindsay, you never learn. Trying the same old tricks again?”
“I just warned you—that was the last time. Since you clearly don’t give a damn what I say, everyone’s right. A violent, vicious ex–con has no business being Mrs. Vincent.”
After what just happened, I knew explaining was pointless.
I looked up at him and smiled:
“What’s the plan, Vincent? Gonna send me back inside for your little toy?”
Vincent’s eyes lingered on my blood–covered face for a moment:
“Since Bianca wasn’t hurt this time, no.”
“But I’m marrying Bianca instead. You owe her that much.”
“As for us… after Bianca and I have our wedding, I’ll get you a marriage certificate too–call it closure for all our years together. From then on, you’ll stay put in the house while Bianca handles everything else with me.”
I almost burst out laughing.
Vincent really wanted to have his cake and eat it too.
The mockery in my eyes set him off. He barked at his security:
“Take Lindsay to the suburban house immediately! She doesn’t leave without my permission–let her think about what
she’s done! Maybe then she’ll stop hurting Bianca!”

Chapter 5
Four or five guards forced me into the car.
But instead of taking me to the suburban house, they dumped me at an abandoned warehouse.
One of them pulled out a knife, grinning:
“Miss Bianca’s orders–you don’t see tomorrow’s sunrise. We’re just doing our job, nothing personal.”
No wonder I didn’t recognize these guys. I’d assumed they were new hires–turns out they were Bianca’s people.
“Oh, and Miss Bianca thought you might get bored dying alone, so she wanted us to show you something interesting.”
He shoved his phone in my face, and my eyes went wide.
On the screen, Bianca–who’d been wheelchair–bound moments ago–was now walking arm–in–arm with Vincent, browsing wedding dresses.
She laughed sweetly:
“Vincent, I can suddenly stop faking the limp–people won’t get suspicious, will they?”
“Nah, we’ll just say your leg healed up. My beautiful bride needs to walk down that aisle. Your plan was genius–deliberately rolling down those stairs when Lindsay’s foot touched you, then having my guy forge the medical reports to get her locked up.”
“Lindsay was getting too strong–willed over the years. Sometimes I worried she felt more like competition than a partner. I fought too hard for everything I have–I won’t let anyone threaten it.”
“I thought all that suffering inside would break her spirit, but apparently she’s still not broken enough.”
The heat of July burned around me, but I felt bone–deep cold.
Nearly twenty years together. I’d been with him from nothing to everything.
We’d been each other’s most trusted partner, friend, family–and this was where it ended.
He wanted to destroy me because he saw me as a threat?
How pathetic.
Watching the guards close in with their twisted grins, I shut my eyes.
When I opened them again, they held nothing but killing intent.
“Take them all down.”

Before they could react, black–clad figures burst from the shadows, dropping the guards in seconds.
