Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 14

When Julian heard her say she’d lost a child, his eyes flickered.

So the other baby really was gone.

“You brought that on yourself. You tried to hurt Helena’s kid, and losing yours was karma catching up to you…”

A loud slap rang out. Julian’s head snapped to the side.

The whole room went silent.

A heavy, icy tension filled the air, so thick it felt almost dangerous.

Miles’s temples throbbed. For a second, he really wanted to bolt. The vibe was just too intense.

Madeline’s eyes burned red as she glared at Julian. She’d put everything she had into that slap, trying to pour out years of pain in that single hit.

“The worst thing that ever happened to me was meeting you! Julian, you are my punishment!” Her voice was raw, almost a scream.

All her misery had started the moment she married him.

That child had done nothing wrong. He died on a cold operating table, and now Julian, the one truly responsible, had the nerve to talk about karma.

Julian wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. His dark eyes locked on Madeline, cold and dangerous.

For a long moment, no one moved. Miles thought for sure Julian was about to lose it and hurt her, but instead, Julian just grabbed the back of Madeline’s neck and pulled her close. His lips barely moved, his voice colder than ice. “Fine. Get ready for more of that punishment.”

Madeline’s lashes trembled, and then she was shoved away hard.

“What are you doing? Julian, you jerk, let me go! You’re insane, let me go!”

Julian scoffed, his lips twisting in a cruel smile. “Those weak moves don’t work on me.”

As he spoke, he tied her wrists with his tie, then slung her over his shoulder and walked off.

“Julian, you maniac! Put me down! Back then you couldn’t wait to get rid of me, and now you’re dragging me back? You’re sick! You’re pathetic! If I ever get the chance, I swear I’ll make you pay! Let me go! Let me go!”

Julian’s grip loosened for a second, and Madeline almost slipped off his shoulder.

Just as she started to fall, he caught her again.

“Keep talking and I’ll drop you for real.”
