Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 172

They stepped out of the car, unhurried and cool, their eyes practically dripping with disdain as they looked Madeline up and down. “Oops, sorry. Didn’t mean it. You’re not hurt, are you?”

Madeline just stared back, her face completely blank. “Not on purpose?” she repeated, voice flat.

They had the whole street to drive on, yet somehow their car came straight for her. It couldn’t have been more obvious what they were trying to do. If her reflexes had been just a little slower, she’d probably still be lying on the pavement.

“What, is ‘on purpose’ only if you actually run me over and leave me dead in the street?”

Now that it was just the three of them, Raine dropped the act and let out a scoff. “So what if we did hit you? I’d just pay up, right? A million or two, whatever. You think that’s a big deal? Your life wouldn’t even cover half my car. And since you’re fine, what are you making a fuss for? You want money that badly? Didn’t think you’d gotten this pathetic.”

Raine gave a little smirk. “Honestly, if you’re that desperate, roll around on the ground a few times and maybe I’ll feel generous.”

She shot Helene a look and they both laughed, looking at Madeline like she was nothing.

To them, a person’s life was just a price tag.

Madeline’s eyes turned icy cold.

Helene leaned in, chin high. “Come on, Madeline, do a good job and maybe we’ll even give you a tip. For you, two million is a fortune. Look at you, can’t even afford a car. Maybe you really would roll around for the cash.”

Just picturing Madeline begging seemed to thrill them.

“What are you waiting for? Get on with it!” Raine stepped forward, reaching out to grab her.

She yanked Raine down to the pavement, holding her by the hair and landing two more quick slaps. Raine screamed, shrill and furious.

Helene saw her chance and tried to run, but Madeline’s eyes snapped up. “Where do you think you’re going?”

She strode over and grabbed Helene by the hair. With her injuries, Helene barely put up a fight. She fell to the ground, cursing. “Madeline, you’re insane. Let go of me!”

Madeline grabbed her by the collar and pulled her close. “So in your world, two million is the price of a life?”

Helene glared at her, hatred burning in her eyes. “That’s right. And honestly, your life isn’t even worth that. Giving you two million would be charity. I should’ve finished you off back then. Should’ve sent more people. Then you wouldn’t even have the chance to be this cocky with me now.”
