Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 22

An uneasy silence settled between them, thick with tension.

Madeline’s heart pounded. She knew she was in trouble, so she fought back, twisting in his grip. “Julian, what are you trying to do?”

She shoved at him, but he only pinned her tighter, refusing to let her go.

Julian caught her chin in his hand, forcing her to look at him. His voice was low, rough with anger. “You want this child that much?”

“He was my kid,” Madeline shot back.

Julian let out a short, cold laugh. “Five years and you’ve only gotten better at playing dirty.”

Madeline clenched her jaw, yanked her face free, and bit down on his finger so hard she tasted blood before she finally let go.

Julian’s brows pulled together in pain.

Crimson smeared across Madeline’s lips, making her look even fiercer. Her eyes were icy, stubborn, unafraid as she glared at him. Gritting her teeth, she gathered all her strength and shoved him away.

Julian staggered back, barely catching himself. He shot her a furious look.

Suddenly, someone banged on the door. A moment later, a group of police officers walked in, uniforms crisp, faces serious. One flashed his badge. “We received a report about a possible child abduction here.”

Madeline didn’t hesitate. She stepped right up. “Officer, it’s him. He took my son.”

Julian’s face twisted in disbelief. “You really called the police?”

His eyes had gone dark, cold, almost dangerous.

One of the officers looked between them. “Miss, do you have any proof Mr. Grayson took your child?”

“My son is still in this house. Search, you’ll find him,” Madeline said, her voice steady, certain.

Julian let out another cold laugh. “There’s a child here, sure, but he’s my son. She has nothing to do with him.”

Julian’s mouth curled in a cool, mocking smile. “And if he doesn’t know you?”

“Doesn’t know me?” Madeline shook her head, almost amused. “Julian, do you even hear yourself? That’s ridiculous.”

Julian didn’t back down. “If he doesn’t recognize you, what then?”

A weird feeling crept over Madeline. Why did Julian sound so sure Oliver wouldn’t remember her?

She didn’t have time to figure it out. After a beat, she said, “If it’s like you say, I’ll stay and treat your illness for free, until you’re well again.”

Julian arched a brow. “You really think your so-called skills are enough to help me?”

Madeline shot him a look. “My skills were good enough for you to cross half the world to find me at that hospital in Country Y, weren’t they?”

Julian let out a dark, humorless chuckle, his eyes narrowing. “Alright then. It’s a deal.”
