Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 238

“Julian, where are you going?” Brady called out.

“The police station.”

As Julian strode off, Brady and Josh exchanged a knowing glance. Was he going to handle things for Madeline?

Madeline slowly opened her eyes, greeted by that unmistakable smell of disinfectant.

“You’re awake?”

“Josh? Brady? Where am I?” Madeline blinked, still groggy. Her mind felt hazy as she tried to adjust to the bright overhead lights, then she looked over at the two guys by her side.

Josh answered, “You’re in the hospital. You passed out from a fever.”

Bits and pieces of memory started coming back to her. She remembered Casey giving her a ride home, running into Julian, and then feeling so dizzy she couldn’t keep her balance. No wonder she’d felt so awful, burning up one minute and shivering the next. She must’ve had a fever the whole time.

If Josh and Brady were sitting here, it had to be Julian who brought her in.

“Where is he?”

“Julian just stepped out a few minutes ago,” Brady replied, his tone a little too casual.

Madeline nodded. “Thanks, both of you. Really. You don’t have to wait around if you’ve got stuff to do. I’ll be fine.”

Josh grinned. “We’re not busy. Besides, helping people is kind of our thing.”

Madeline couldn’t help but smile. “I can tell.”

Meanwhile, at the police station, Raine’s voice rang out down the hallway, wild and desperate.

“I said I didn’t do it! I didn’t, I didn’t! How many times do I have to say it?”

“I’m the victim here, don’t you get it? I’m the one who got hurt! Why aren’t you arresting Madeline instead of keeping me locked up?”

“Let me out of here!”

“It was Madeline! She set me up! She sent those people after me! She wanted to ruin me on purpose…”

Her screams dissolved into sobs, her whole body shaking. “I’m the victim… That bitch Madeline did this to me. She’s ruined my life. She’s ruined everything.”

Raine’s eyes widened, panic flickering across her face.

“What? Why?” Out in the hallway, Helene overheard that all five of them were being held again. She looked stunned, her hands balled into tight fists. A bad feeling crept into her chest.

She’d already called Bill, asking him to pull some strings and get them released. The last thing she wanted was for those idiots to start talking and drag her into this mess.

But now they were still stuck inside. It could only mean one thing. Someone was working against her. Someone was making sure they didn’t get out.

Who could it be?

Helene clenched her jaw, mind racing. That’s when she heard footsteps echoing down the hall.

She turned and spotted a man in a sharp suit, moving quickly, his entire presence cold and intimidating. The police chief followed at his side.

Helene’s heart skipped a beat.

The man’s eyes landed on her, cool and unreadable. Just being under his stare sent a chill through her.

She was frozen for a few seconds before she snapped out of it and hurried over. “Julian, what are you doing here?”
