Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 289

Julian studied Oliver’s little face. “You sure have a lot of questions.”

“If you just tell me, I promise I’ll stop asking.”

“This is adult business.”

Oliver crossed his arms and huffed, sinking back into his seat. “Mommy always says that too. All you adults are the same.”

Julian’s gaze grew sharper. Oliver clapped a hand over his mouth, suddenly nervous. “I mean, that’s just what Mommy used to say…”

Julian caught his slip and gave a small smile. “You don’t have to pretend. You’re not Noah. You’re Oliver.”

Oliver’s eyes went wide with shock. “Wait… how did you know? You don’t know everything, do you?”

“I do,” Julian said quietly.

Oliver started to stammer, so anxious he could barely get the words out. “Then… then…”

“Hey, relax. I’m not going to bite. If you want, you can keep thinking of me as your dad.”

Now that the truth was out, Oliver suddenly felt awkward. “Dad? We didn’t mean to trick you…”

Julian’s voice stayed calm. “I know. I’m not mad at you.”

The car arrived at the school and slowed to a stop. Julian turned to Oliver again. “If you want to go back to your mom, I won’t stop you.”

Oliver pressed his lips together. “Thank you.”

Julian watched as the little boy walked toward the school, a flash of sadness crossing his face.

Up front, Miles spoke up. “Boss, are you really sending him back to Ms. Monroe?”

Julian rubbed his forehead. “They both want to be with her. Why should I stand in the way?” He thought about it. They weren’t related by blood. If he forced them to stay, nobody would be happy. Madeline bent on cutting things off for good. Fine. Let her have it her way.

“Still no luck finding the man from back then?” Julian asked suddenly, unable to shake the question of who Madeline had been with that night.

Miles answered, “There were so many guests, and it’s been years. It’s not easy. We need more time.” He honestly didn’t get why his boss cared so much now. After all these years, what difference would it make?

Noah nodded eagerly. “Yep.”

After a quick trip to the market, they headed home. The sky was already starting to get dark.

The car rolled down the quiet road. Madeline was looking at her phone when she glanced up and noticed a black car speeding toward them from the side. Her heart skipped a beat. The car swerved straight at them. Madeline’s eyes widened. “Watch out!”

Her warning barely had time to sink in before a loud crash shook the car.

Brenda and Marian both screamed. Noah looked terrified.

Madeline lunged forward, grabbing the steering wheel just in time to bring the car to a shaky stop. The first thing she did was whip around to check on Noah.

But before she could even catch her breath, the back door was yanked open. A man dressed in black reached in and snatched Noah out of the car.

Without even thinking, Madeline jumped out and tore after him.

Marian sat frozen in shock, unable to move. Brenda scrambled out too, just in time to see Madeline fighting with the man in black.
