"Why do you look so pale?" Julian frowned, his eyes scanning her face.
"It's nothing," Madeline replied, looking away.
Julian didn't buy it. He stood up, reached for her, and gently pulled her back toward him. "Are you hurt?"
Madeline wobbled for a second but brushed his hand off. She met Julian's gaze, surprised to find genuine worry there.
That concern didn't look fake at all.
Just yesterday, Julian had practically dragged her to get a full check-up, acting like her health was his top priority. But today, he just sent someone to attack her so badly. It just didn't add up.
He looked so confused and worried right now. If he actually knew what happened, there was no way he could fake that look.
If Julian really wanted to take her child, would he have to be so sneaky about it?
Madeline stared at him for a long moment, searching his face.
Was it really not him?
She caught a glimpse of a bodyguard nearby. Her eyes narrowed and she moved without thinking, striking at him with the edge of her hand. The guard reacted instantly, blocking her attack.
Julian watched her, clearly puzzled by her sudden move.
After two quick exchanges, Madeline stepped back, realization dawning in her eyes.
The people who attacked her and took her son weren't Grayson family bodyguards. Their fighting style was totally different.
Whoever had ambushed her fought like killers, each move brutal and meant to do real harm. That was the work of hired assassins, not professional security.
But those men had worn Grayson uniforms on purpose, just to frame Julian for the kidnapping.
The uniforms weren't fake, and the car they'd used was really from the Grayson family.
"Okay," Julian said, his expression turning serious as he led her to the security room.
Madeline remembered exactly what time the black car had arrived. She had the footage rewound, and it didn't take long to spot the car.
It drove smoothly through the estate's back gate. For a moment, it slipped into a blind spot, then reappeared on camera. The car stopped, and a few staff came out and lifted two large, sealed foam boxes from the trunk.
Those boxes were definitely big enough to hide a child.
Madeline's hands shook. "Where did they take those boxes?"
"The kitchen cold storage," Julian answered, his voice low.
Madeline went pale. "Where is it? Noah could be in one of those boxes. Please, get me there now."
Julian grabbed her arm just as she was about to bolt. His face was tense. "That's impossible. Those are just fresh vegetables we had delivered. Why would Noah be in there? Madeline, you need to calm down."
