Christian paused for a moment, then nodded. “Yeah. Aside from what happened, she really is the best choice for Julian’s wife.”
She had the right family background, looked good, had the education to match. On paper, she was perfect. If it wasn’t Helene, it would’ve been another girl from a good family. One thing was for sure, it definitely wouldn’t be Madeline.
“Yeah.”
“Put this paternity test away somewhere safe. Make sure that bodyguard keeps quiet, and have someone make up a new test. As for the real story, I’ll tell Julian when the time comes.”
“Yes, sir. I’ll take care of it right away.”
George rushed out.
Christian looked at the photo in his hand, his eyes turning darker before he left the room.
“Get the car. We’re going to the hospital.”
He wanted to see the kids. His great-grandsons.
…
At the hospital, Lucy stopped by to check on the children but didn’t stay long.
Madeline leaned over Noah, who was fast asleep, and gently tucked in his blanket. Her eyes were warm and soft. She glanced at Oliver, who had fallen asleep on the couch, and walked over to cover him with a light blanket too.
When she finished, she looked back at Julian, her tone even. “It’s late. You should head home. Leave Oliver here, I’ll move him to the bed in a bit.”
But Julian didn’t move. Instead, he motioned for her to come closer. “Come here.”
“What is it?”
“Your medicine.”
Madeline hesitated. “What medicine?”
Julian’s face looked serious. “The doctor said you haven’t been using your ointment like you’re supposed to.”
Madeline pressed her lips together. “I’ve just been busy, I forgot. I’ll ask a nurse to help me later.”
“I can help you.”
Madeline’s eyelashes fluttered. She shook her head right away. “No, really, I’ll get a nurse.”
Julian’s brow lifted as he looked at her. Seeing how flustered she was, he caught on right away.
“What are you embarrassed about? It’s not like I haven’t seen everything already…”
Madeline bit her lip and clapped her hand over his mouth. “Can you just shut up?”
Julian let out a quiet laugh, gently moved her hand away, and said, “Alright. If you’re going to be shy with your shirt off, then I’ll take mine off too. That way it’s fair, right?”
Madeline stared at him, stunned.
Were they seriously going to stand in the bathroom, both half-naked, just staring at each other? What kind of twisted logic was that?
“Get lost.”
Julian glanced at her, noticing the pink rising in her cheeks. “Hurry up. If you keep stalling, I won’t mind just doing it myself.”
Madeline opened her mouth to argue, but Julian wasn’t giving her any more chances. He dragged her into the bathroom, locked the door, and started to help her with her clothes.
“I can do it myself,” Madeline said quickly, backing away. “Turn around.”
