“Now that woman’s daughter is back at Julian’s side. Her mother ruined your life for her own selfish reasons. There’s no way I’ll let her daughter marry Julian.”
Tears shone in Christian’s eyes, but behind them you could see something darker, colder.
He sat in silence for what felt like forever before finally calling out, “George.”
George, who had been waiting just outside, stepped in right away. “Sir.”
Christian gently set the photograph back where he could see it easily, like he always did. It was a constant reminder of everything he’d lost, and everything he couldn’t let himself forget.
Now, the enemy’s daughter had given birth to a Grayson heir. Fate had a twisted sense of humor.
“Sir, should we bring the two kids home to the Grayson estate?”
Christian’s expression had already shifted. The confusion and grief from earlier were gone, replaced by his usual stern, commanding presence. “They’re Graysons. Of course they’re coming home. Did you really think I’d let that woman raise them herself?”
Never. There was no way Grayson children would be left to be raised by outsiders.
“What about Mr. Grayson? What do we tell him?”
Christian stared at the paternity test results on the table, silent for a long time. “We don’t tell him anything yet. Wait until Madeline is out of the country, then let him know.”
“Keep it from him? Sir, that could lead to a lot of misunderstandings.”
“I don’t care. He’s already fallen for her. She’s become a distraction. If he finds out those two kids are his, he might do something reckless. With Julian, it wouldn’t surprise me if he tried to remarry Madeline right away.”
Christian was silent for a moment, his eyes narrowing as he thought.
“What really happened that night five years ago? If these two kids are Julian’s, then whose child was Helene carrying? Maybe they never even went into the wrong rooms.”
“We can’t know for sure. The next morning, it was Ms. Fortner in Mr. Grayson’s room. As for when those two kids were conceived, only Mr. Grayson would know.”
Some things between a husband and wife just couldn’t be understood by anyone else.
Christian’s brow furrowed, his face growing darker. “Either way, those two children are Graysons. Find a way to bring them home. We’ll figure out the rest later.”
“And what about the engagement between Mr. Grayson and Ms. Fortner? Should it continue?”
