Madeline narrowed her eyes and nodded.
Her suspicions were right all along.
There was no way the Grayson family would let their own blood be raised by someone else.
“But if Julian keeps his promise, we won’t have to worry about any of this.”
Brenda squeezed Madeline’s hand, her face full of shock. “So that’s why you asked Julian for that promise, just now?”
To let her and the kids go, and never bother them again.
“Yes.” Madeline nodded.
Christian already knew about the kids, and that meant Julian would find out soon too.
Once the truth about the kids came out, everything from the past would be dragged into the light.
Julian hated being lied to. Helene couldn’t hide the truth forever, and Madeline wasn’t about to let her try.
She’d been hurt too much back then, and she was done letting it go.
She needed answers.
She needed to see Julian regret what he’d done.
She needed to take her two children away, and she would never let the Graysons take them.
She wasn’t strong enough to fight the Grayson family directly, but she could use Julian’s guilt.
Madeline’s eyes grew thoughtful and intense.
After all those years of being pushed around, it was finally her turn to take charge.
She walked over to the table, picked up the mug Julian had used, and tucked it into a bag. She found a few strands of Oliver’s hair and added them too.
Brenda came over and took her cold hand.
“Madeline, whatever you decide, I’m with you. Don’t worry, I’ll watch over the company. You just do what you need to do.”
Madeline saw how fiercely loyal Brenda was and smiled with real gratitude. “Thank you.”
Good news?
She was pratically dead.
What good could there possibly be?
“What good news?”
“Last night, the Grayson family withdrew the announcement about the broken engagement. And this morning, they told the media that yesterday’s message was sent by mistake,” Courtney said, excitement in her voice.
Helene’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
“It’s true.”
Helene’s brief happiness faded again. “What does it matter? Obviously, this was Christian’s idea. Once the paternity results come in, Julian will still look into what happened before. I won’t be able to hide, and he’ll never marry me.”
“No, Helene, listen. There’s one more good thing.”
“Another one?” Helene looked at Courtney in disbelief.
