Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 373

Madeline turned her head, gazing out the window with a quiet sigh. “Why wouldn’t I want a life that’s calm and comfortable?”

The car sped down the road. Julian rolled down his window, letting a rush of icy air whip through the interior.

Madeline couldn’t help but shiver as the cold hit her.

Julian glanced at her, his lips pulling into a slight smirk. “You could just say you want to get away from me.”

A soft chuckle slipped from Madeline.

He was right. She did need to stay away from him. Ever since she married him, she hadn’t had a single peaceful day. At home, he kept his distance, and outside, Helene did everything she could to make her life miserable.

She’d loved him too much back then. She put up with everything, forgetting that loving yourself had to come first.

So she had to leave. And not just leave. She wanted Julian to regret everything he’d ever done.

Madeline took a steady breath, forcing her feelings down. “Julian,” she said, voice calm, “I should’ve realized it sooner. The moment I knew you’d never love me, I should’ve divorced you.”

She sounded so composed, but her words hit Julian hard.

So she’d be better off without him. So she should have left a long time ago.

The car kept picking up speed. Madeline felt dizzy, her stomach churning. She pressed a hand to her chest and turned to glance at Julian.

He noticed, catching her discomfort from the corner of his eye. He knew she couldn’t handle going this fast. His hands tightened on the steering wheel, struggling to keep his anger in check. Gradually, he slowed the car.

Unbelievable.

Julian looked out the window, frustration simmering inside him.

How had things gotten to this point? The girl who once loved him so much was now doing everything she could to get away from him.

And him?

Madeline hadn’t been sleeping either—she was busy planning how to take the kids abroad once everything was sorted out. Christian would never let the kids go easily, and she worried Julian would stop her if he ever found out they were his own children.

She needed to have everything ready. Casey had told her to treat her birthday as a new beginning. That was exactly what she planned to do. Finish things here and finally walk away from the people she should’ve left behind long ago.

“Mommy, Noah.” Oliver ran up, throwing his little arms around Madeline.

Lately, Madeline was so busy caring for Noah and handling everything else that Oliver, not wanting to add to her load, had cleverly started sticking with Julian instead.

Madeline smiled gently at Oliver, but her smile faded a bit when she lifted her eyes to Julian’s blank expression.

Seeing him standing there in silence, Madeline kept her tone polite. “Thanks for bringing Oliver here.”

Julian just gave a quiet, “Yeah.”

A heavy silence hung in the air. Julian was never much of a talker, and Madeline had no idea what to say. After their last big argument, there was nothing left but awkward tension filling the space between them.
