Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 379

As Julian kissed Madeline, his mind kept replaying the image of her hugging Casey, her smile so bright and warm. The thought made his blood boil.

He finally let go of her, and in the next instant, she slapped him. Twice. Hard.

Julian stared at her, his gaze cold and sharp, his anger barely contained. Her cheeks were flushed with fury. “So, you’re really planning to leave with him? Just take the kid and go?”

Madeline froze. She didn’t answer.

“Tell me. Is that what you want?”

She pushed at his chest, shoving him with everything she had. “Let me go.”

“Julian, I said let me go.”

He didn’t move. He just stood there, solid as a wall. “Didn’t you say you wanted to make me regret everything? Didn’t you say you were innocent back then? Prove it. Show me the evidence. Until you do, you’re not taking the kid anywhere.”

“So what, you want to trap me here in the Capital forever? Just keep me by your side like this? You think I’ll never find out the truth, or are you just convinced I’m lying?”

“What if I want to leave? What gives you the right to stop me?”

Julian’s face was tight with anger. He couldn’t hide it.

She’s so stubborn.

“I want to leave you. I don’t want to see you with Helene anymore. I’m done with all of this.” Madeline shoved him with another burst of strength, finally breaking free. “You don’t get to control my life.”

Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, but she refused to let them fall.

They were at a standoff. The party was still happening, but people at Grayson Enterprises whispered that Julian wasn’t even in the Capital today.

Not showing up to your own engagement party sent a pretty clear signal. If Christian and the Fortner family wanted to throw a party, fine. He wasn’t going to stop them, but he sure wasn’t going to show up or acknowledge the engagement, either.

Of course, that was all just rumor. No one really knew what was true. Everyone was watching and waiting.

Because of all the speculation about Julian’s attitude, the engagement party—which should have been packed—actually felt pretty empty.

“Is this party between Mr. Grayson and Ms. Fortner even happening? It’s getting late and hardly anyone’s here.”

At an event like this, the place should have been packed, people eager to be seen.

“I don’t know. I heard Mr. Grayson is totally against it, and he’s not even in town. I doubt this is really going to happen.”
