Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 60

“Then give me a hug.”

Brenda stretched her arms out wide.

Noah glanced at Madeline, a little unsure. He wasn’t used to this kind of closeness, but thinking of how outgoing Oliver was, he decided it was safer to play along. He stepped up and gave Brenda a quick hug.

Brenda practically glowed with happiness.

“By the way, Madeline, did you find a school for Oliver?”

Madeline nodded. “Yeah, it’s all set. He can start in two days.”

“That’s great. You’ll be busy with work soon, so how about we take turns picking him up?” Brenda offered.

Madeline had already thought about the whole pick-up and drop-off thing. Brenda’s idea was sweet, but she didn’t want to keep relying on her.

“You’re the CEO. Your schedule is way crazier than mine. I was actually planning to hire a nanny to help with Oliver. It’d just be easier for everyone.”

Brenda nodded. “Leave this to me.”

“Thank you. It’s almost dinner time. Why don’t you stay and eat with us? I picked up a ton of groceries today, and I was going to cook.”

Madeline started gathering the shopping bags from the table, but Brenda and Noah both stepped in, blocking her on either side.

Madeline blinked, confused. “What’s up?”

Brenda grabbed the bags right out of her hands. “Hey, you’re not supposed to get your hands wet. Did you forget? Let me handle it.”

Madeline raised an eyebrow and couldn’t help laughing. “Are you sure you can actually cook?”

Brenda hesitated, then gave an awkward little laugh. “Okay, maybe not. Let’s just order takeout. So much less hassle.”

So the three of them ended up ordering food instead.

As soon as she finished, Marian, the maid who’d been pretending to clean nearby, spoke up.

“Sir, that’s not what happened.”

Marian looked outraged, her voice ringing out as she stood up for Helene. “Noah told the gardeners to pull out the flowers. Ms. Fortner cried for such a long time about it. When she saw you coming home, she held back her tears so you wouldn’t worry, and she said she didn’t like the flowers just so you wouldn’t be upset with Noah…”

“Marian!” Helene interrupted just in time, biting her lip and looking like she was barely holding it together. “Really, it’s nothing. I just didn’t like them anymore.”

But Marian wasn’t finished. “Ms. Fortner, you’re too kind. Noah acted out, and you’re still trying to cover for him. Look, he even scratched your arm. Sir, you have to see for yourself.”

With a worried look, Marian took Helene by the arm and brought her over to Julian.

Julian glanced at her arm, his brow creasing.

Helene quickly pulled her arm back, hiding it behind her, and forced a small, shaky smile.
