Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 736

Shelly’s face was a mask of cold indifference.

Madeline frantically shot Brenda and Noah and Oliver, Olive a desperate look.

The three of them understood instantly and moved forward.

Brenda looped her arm through Shelly’s, pulling her toward the dining room. “Shelly, come on, let’s eat. The food is getting cold.”

As the others guided her away, Shelly looked back at Madeline. “You’re staying here tonight. So are Noah and Oliver. You are not going back with him, do you hear me?”

Shelly’s icy tone made Madeline flinch.

Madeline glanced at Julian, who was now the object of her mother’s disapproval, and a small smile touched her lips. “Poor you. No dinner for you tonight.”

Julian walked over and steadied Madeline, who was still balancing on one foot. “It’s fine. I'm thick-skinned enough to stay for dinner.”

A small laugh escaped Madeline’s lips.

Shelly wasn’t actually going to deny Julian a meal, but she was serious about not letting Madeline go home with him.

After dinner, another guest arrived. Hearing a voice at the entrance, everyone turned to look.

A tall, slender man with strikingly handsome features stood in the doorway, speaking with a maid.

The maid was about to announce him, but Madeline had already spotted him. “James.”

James, holding a large bouquet of roses, walked in. He was followed by an assistant carrying a pile of exquisitely wrapped gift boxes.

His eyes found Madeline immediately, his gaze flicking past Julian as if he weren't even there. He walked straight to her. “For you.”

Madeline blinked, her arms suddenly full of roses. “Wait, did you put a tracker on me?”

No, that wasn't it.

Madeline looked at Brenda with a question in her eyes.

Brenda held up her hands. “I’m innocent.”

“I happened to be at your office when you called Brenda this afternoon,” James explained.

Shelly walked over. “And you are?”

James introduced himself. “Shelly, my name is James. I’m sorry to drop by so late. I brought a few small gifts. I hope you like them.”

Shelly glanced at Madeline, a flicker of understanding on her otherwise impassive face. “Thank you. Are you a friend of Madeline’s?”

“I twisted my ankle, but it’s fine now.” Madeline started hopping toward the sofa, but Julian, his brow furrowed, strode forward and swept her up into his arms.

Shelly watched from a distance before turning away with a sigh. A maid approached her and whispered, “Ma’am, Ray is here.”

“I’m not seeing him.”

“But…”

Ray had already barged in. Shelly’s gaze turned icy as she saw him. A moment later, Jane and Alianna appeared in the doorway behind him.

Shelly’s hands clenched into fists.

Ray walked over and took her hand.

Shelly snatched it back. “What do you want?”

“Let’s talk. Alone.”

“Talk alone?” Shelly scoffed, glancing at the two women trailing behind him.

Jane stepped forward, her eyes red as if she had just been crying. “Shelly, we came to explain what happened this afternoon. And to say goodbye. We’ve decided to leave. Alianna and I don’t want to see you two fighting because of us anymore. Shelly, please don’t divorce Ray. We’ll go. I’ll take Alianna and we’ll never bother you again.”
