Julian noticed the flicker of emotion in her eyes but couldn’t decipher its source. After a moment’s thought, he gave up and said nothing, letting the matter drop.
“Are you still going to perform the acupuncture?” Julian asked her.
Madeline snapped back to the present and glanced at Alianna, who was still pretending to be unconscious. She smiled. “Of course. I’m going to see this through. It wouldn’t be right to stop halfway.”
Jane tried to intervene, but a cold glare from Julian made her cautiously retract her outstretched hand.
Lying on the sofa, Alianna heard everything clearly. Her entire body was tense, and it was taking all her willpower not to give herself away.
But if that woman stuck ten needles in her fingers, they’d be ruined.
That vicious witch.
Alianna cursed Madeline a thousand times in her head.
Madeline took out a new silver needle that glinted coldly and grabbed Alianna’s hand. “Well then, let’s continue the treatment. We can’t have Alianna unconscious for too long. It could be dangerous.”
Just as Madeline was about to press the needle into Alianna’s fingertip, Alianna’s fear got the better of her, and she yanked her hand back.
She moved so fast that even Ray was stunned.
Madeline simply smiled at the withdrawn hand.
“Alianna?” Jane rushed over and hugged her.
Alianna’s eyes reddened. “Mom…”
“Alianna, how are you feeling? Does your body still hurt?” Jane shot her a meaningful look.
