Twin Cupids at Work Daddy Come Home novel Chapter 747

George stood absolutely frozen in place, a cold sweat breaking out across his back.

After a long, agonizing moment, Christian waved a hand dismissively. "Go on. I don't have any leads yet either."

George's eyes shifted nervously. He gave a brief nod, turned, and left the room.

Christian watched him walk away, his gaze turning dark and contemplative.

Outside in the corridor.

Madeline was just about to head downstairs when a shrill voice pierced the air behind her. Denise, with a face mask still plastered to her skin, charged right at her. "Madeline, you still dare to show your face here? You got Lincoln kicked out of Grayson Enterprises, and you crossed Alianna. You're such an obnoxious bitch!"

Denise raised a hand to shove her, but Madeline was faster. She reached out and clamped a firm grip on the arm aimed at her shoulder.

"Bitch, let go of me!"

Denise thrashed, trying to rip her hand away.

Madeline glanced dismissively at the struggling arm and raised an eyebrow. "Stop acting like a lunatic. You'll give yourself wrinkles."

"You!" Denise yanked her hand back forcefully. "You ruined Lincoln. You're dead. We won't let you get away with this."

"Denise!" Lucy demanded as she rolled out of the elevator. "She is Julian's wife. Calling her a bitch over and over is entirely disrespecting both Julian and me."

Denise put her hands on her hips and scoffed loudly. "You must have forgotten, Lucy, but they're already divorced."

"I said she is Julian's wife, and that's exactly what she is. If you have a problem with that, you can take it up with us. And for the record, it was Julian who ordered Lincoln out of the company. If you're so brave, go argue with him. But you don't have the guts for that, do you? You only know how to take it out on her. When did this family teach you to be such a cowardly bully?"

"Lucy, you've been sitting in that wheelchair for so long, it's clearly rotted your brain. Everyone knows this woman purposely provoked Lincoln in the lobby while he was drunk!"

"Drunk words are sober thoughts. Whatever Lincoln blurted out while intoxicated were just the ugly truths he usually hides. He only has his own incompetence and wild ambitions to blame. Besides, drinking on company time? He really outdid himself," Lucy smiled mockingly.

Unable to out-argue Lucy, Denise gritted her teeth in frustration, her resentful glare darting venomously between the two women.

Lucy smiled softly. "You've certainly become much more indifferent."

"Otherwise, I'd just exhaust myself. People like that aren't worth the energy."

Lucy nodded in agreement. "You're absolutely right. What were you speaking to Christian about earlier?"

"Nothing much. Just some matters from the past."

"He agreed not to interfere with you and Julian anymore. It's clear you found a way to handle him."

The elevator chimed at the ground floor, and Madeline pushed Lucy's wheelchair out into the grand foyer. "I just helped him see a few truths he had been kept in the dark about."

Lucy's eyes dimmed with a sudden sadness. "Was it about Brian?"

A bitter smile touched Lucy's lips. "You don't have to hide everything from me. I'm not blind. I've figured out plenty of secrets in this house. My only fear is that Julian will be put in danger. Madeline, he's the only son I have."
