Amber knew these enforcers were reckless criminals.

Threats didn't scare them, and bribes wouldn't sway them. They just thrived on violence.

Joanne had clearly ordered a ruthless hit, meaning they wouldn't stop until they got what they wanted.

But all Amber needed was to stall.

"It's not a capital crime? That depends on who you're messing with! I am the Madison Group's sponsored student this year. If you destroy me, do you really think Sharif won't make you pay?"

Wade frowned. Clearly, she knew about the sponsorship.

Hah! Joanne sure had some nerve, telling him everything. And knowing this, it meant the $5,000 loan Lucian's mother took out was probably orchestrated by Joanne too. Hahaha... how fascinating!

The private investigator, who had been dragged out and cornered by the four thugs, frantically interjected. "She's not lying! You better not touch her. Mr. Madison sent me. If she loses even a single hair, you're all dead."

His face was bruised and bloody from the beating, but Amber kept shooting him meaningful looks. Taking the hint, he continued, "I'm telling the truth! Why else would I be crazy enough to drive in here and take on five guys alone?"

"Mr. Madison already ordered a background check on Joanne yesterday. If you follow through with this, do you really think your boss will protect you when the heat comes down?"

"You guys are just working for a paycheck. You really want to pit a loan shark operation against the most powerful CEO in the city? It's suicide! Listen to me, before this goes too far, take her to the hospital. Once Mr. Madison and the cops get here, there will be nowhere left to run."

"And don't think going to jail will save you. If Mr. Madison wants someone gone, he has endless ways to make it happen. Do you honestly think you'll survive on the inside?"

Amber smiled faintly. This PI was pretty sharp. Laying out the pros and cons worked on anyone; when it involved their own survival, they couldn't help but second-guess.

"Don't let them scare you, Wade! They're just playing good cop, bad cop."
