Azure Lounge, Riverport's most exclusive socialite club.
This place only entertained the top twenty elites in the city. Yvonne Sargent, the heiress of the Sargent Group, had both the looks and the wealth. She was the center of attention for many of Riverport's socialites and wealthy heirs.
Joanne had asked Wade to dig up information on Sharif Madison’s weaknesses, and Yvonne was the only viable target.
Rumor had it she was Sharif's ex-fiancée. When Sharif's older brother was targeted by rivals, plunging the Madison family into crisis, they had sought a strategic alliance. Yvonne had declared that if Sharif married her, the Sargent family would step in to save them.
Later, for reasons unknown, Sharif never married her and pulled the Madison Group through the crisis on his own. Holding a grudge, Yvonne took every opportunity to make things difficult for him.
Of course, every attempt blew up in her face. Sharif remained untouched while his business boomed. Unable to handle the embarrassment, the Sargent family ordered Yvonne to stop harassing him, threatening to disown her and kick her out of the company if she didn't comply.
When Joanne heard this, her woman's intuition kicked in—she could team up with Yvonne.
So, without even changing her clothes, she had Wade drive her to the lounge, where she waited outside.
"Joanne, maybe we should just drop this."
"Yeah, they're major players. We're just nobodies. We can't fight them."
"Listen to us, Joanne. Just leave Amber alone. As long as we don't provoke her, she won't do anything to us."
"Exactly. Turning a personal grudge into a corporate war? That's a death wish."
Joanne refused to listen. "Shut up, all of you! You might be cowards, but I'm not. This is my business, and I'll handle it myself."
With that, she shoved the van door open. Wade and the others couldn't hold her back.
Monty slapped his thigh. "Wade, what do we do?"
Wade rubbed his head. "How should I know? We never should have taken this job. Now it's a massive mess."
"Should we tell the boss?" Monty suggested.
Wade smacked the back of his head. "Are you trying to get us killed?"
"He's right. If the boss finds out we let someone get leverage on us while on a job, he'll end us himself."
"I say we just let Joanne do her thing. The college entrance exams are in a few days anyway. We got our thirty grand from Lucian, so it's out of our hands."
Wade nodded. "True. Let her handle it. If the boss asks, we all say we tried to stop her but couldn't."
