Yvonne was being pressured to get married again.
She was pushing thirty, and most of her peers in their social circle already had a couple of kids.
She was supposed to get married two years ago, but Sharif refused to marry her, choosing instead to shoulder the Madison Group's massive nine-hundred-million debt alone. That rejection had turned her into the laughingstock of the elite circle.
To smooth things over, the Sargent family found her a new fiancé: Miles.
Miles was a notorious playboy who changed women faster than he changed clothes. The Yates family wanted the alliance, hoping Yvonne could keep Miles in check. But Yvonne detested him; she only wanted Sharif. Miles felt the exact same way about her—she could scream all she wanted, and he would keep partying.
As an engaged couple, they were basically just business partners.
"Ms. Sargent, we've already notified Mr. Yates. Please calm down. Can I get you anything else?" a lounge attendant, who was currently serving as Yvonne's punching bag, asked nervously.
Yvonne kicked off her heels, stood on the sofa, and screamed, "If I wanted something else, would I be talking to you?! Go look in a mirror! Letting you be my punching bag is a compliment!"
Outside the door, Joanne visibly shivered. Yvonne is this unhinged? She truly was a spoiled heiress, operating on a completely different level of toxicity.
Miles glanced at her. "Still want to go in?"
Joanne gritted her teeth. "Yes. Lead the way, Mr. Yates."
If Yvonne was this ruthless, using her to deal with Amber would be incredibly effective.
"Alright then," Miles replied.
The moment they stepped inside, another glass flew toward them. Used to her outbursts, Miles casually caught the glass mid-air. He smirked. "Throwing a tantrum again? You're going to get wrinkles, and Sharif will definitely never marry you."
Hearing that, Yvonne was about to unleash a tirade, but her words died in her throat when she saw Joanne following behind him.
"Miles, a high schooler?! Your tastes are getting weirder by the minute. Next time I see you, are you going to bring a middle schooler?"
Yvonne had striking, delicate features. Even though Joanne was undoubtedly pretty, she completely lost her shine in the presence of someone dripping with old-money elegance like Yvonne.
Miles signaled for an attendant, who pulled a cigarette from a silver tray, respectfully handed it to him, and lit it.
Blowing out a ring of smoke, Miles said casually, "Watch your mouth. She’s here for you. Said she had some news about Sharif. Figured it might be to your benefit, so I brought her in."
"Go ahead, gorgeous. What's this big news you have for Ms. Sargent?"
Yvonne was taken aback. Joanne quickly spoke up, "Hello, Ms. Sargent. My name is Joanne Xavier. I'm a senior at Riverport High, and a classmate of the student Mr. Madison is sponsoring."
Yvonne sneered. "Why would a classmate of Sharif's sponsored student come looking for me? Jealous? Want me to sponsor you too? Hahaha. Look, little girl, sponsoring overachievers is a Madison Group charity project. The Sargent family doesn't do that. We prefer funding PhDs."
