Ever since Lucian found out Yvonne had gone to see Amber, a deep sense of unease had settled over him. He was so distracted that he didn't even hear Joanne asking what he wanted to eat in the cafeteria.
Unaware of what was going through his mind, Joanne gently tugged at his sleeve and pouted playfully, "Lucian, if you don't want cafeteria food, we can go out to eat. My treat this time."
Lucian frowned. He was just about to answer when Vance Leavitt walked up with Amber and Tillie. "Amber, let's grab some stir-fry next door. Lunch is on me today."
Vance had apparently come into some cash. He had been meaning to treat Amber ever since she gave him that laptop.
First, the timing had never lined up, and second, Amber had just been too busy.
Since she was tutoring him today, getting some good food in him would motivate him to study harder.
Amber didn't decline. She knew Vance wanted to repay the favor. She had just nodded when Mr. Leavitt, the cafeteria manager, rushed over. "Amber, you and your friends don't need to order or wait in line. Ms. Sargent personally instructed me to serve you the absolute best food we have the moment you walked in."
As soon as the words left his mouth, Mr. Leavitt brought out a tray holding gourmet squab soup, beautifully glazed sweet and sour fish, and a delicate steamed egg custard.
"Have a seat with your friends, Amber. There are a few more dishes I need to stir-fry fresh. Go ahead and start on these."
Amber was stunned.
Vance and Tillie were even more shocked. "This is straight-up bribery."
Standing nearby, Joanne stared in absolute envy, her mouth practically watering at the VIP treatment.
Was Yvonne out of her mind? She had promised to teach Amber a lesson, and instead, she was giving her royal treatment in front of the whole school?
Was this what billionaires called 'teaching someone a lesson'?
"Mr. Leavitt..." Amber started to strictly refuse, but the manager cut her off.
"Amber, Ms. Sargent also instructed me to tell you that you don't have to eat it, but she was going to order it regardless. If you want to waste the food, she doesn't care."
Amber: "..."
Same tyrannical behavior as her past life, same tyrannical behavior now.
Unable to stand Amber's supposed high-and-mighty act, Joanne sneered sarcastically, "Wow, Amber. Must be nice. Mr. Madison from the Madison Group backing you up, and now Ms. Sargent from the Sargent Group bending over backward for you. You must have saved a nation in your past life to have Riverport's two biggest VIPs falling over themselves to please you."
"I'm so jealous. Sadly, I just don't have that kind of luck. Amber, if you're not going to eat it, pass it over to Lucian and me. We're not too proud to eat it. Wasting food is shameful, after all. Since Lucian is the top student in our grade, he needs to set a good example."
Amber smirked. "Joanne, if you're that jealous, why don't you convince Lucian not to apply to the same vocational school as you? He's the top student in our grade; I'm sure the Sargent Group would be thrilled to sponsor him."
Joanne's eyes widened in fury. Lucian quickly intervened. "If you want to be a corporate charity case, that's your business. Don't drag me into it. Joanne, let's go eat somewhere else. This is depressing."
