Money made the world go round, and Amber had prepared meticulously for that agreement.
But human calculations could never outsmart fate. For example, she had agreed with Lucian Juarez that he wouldn't interfere with her pulling her dad away, but he still ended up sending his mother to the Suttons just because he had no one to serve him.
In her past life, Amber had never met the Sutton family. However, judging from the bruises on Xanthe's body and their blatant extortion, Amber had deduced that even if they agreed to let Xanthe go on a blind date, they wouldn't nod without a hefty payout.
Even if Xanthe and her dad actually got together, the Suttons would still try to exploit them. To prevent any future disasters, Amber had firmly closed every loophole the Sutton family could use to back out.
Hearing this, Arthur was furious. Xanthe, terrified that Arthur would scold Amber, tried to get up again but was pushed back down. "Dad, I've grown up. I know you'd be furious finding this out. But compared to your anger, I care much more about the rest of your life."
"Dad..."
"You really have grown up, haven't you? Where are you getting three hundred thousand?! I'm not so old that I need you making my life decisions! Amber, you think this was a brilliant idea? Grace never mistreated you. Just because she hasn't married me yet, you assume she's stringing me along."
"You can't force a relationship! Are you really doing this so I won't have to serve Grace, or are you just using me to get back at Lucian because he got together with Joanne?!"
Amber's breath caught in her throat. Arthur was stunned by his own words and stammered, "Amber, I..."
"Fine, let's just say I did this because Lucian got together with Joanne. No matter what you think, my goal is clear. Dad, I've given you enough time. Even if today hadn't happened, didn't you see clearly when Lucian tried to force me to my knees and Grace demanded I apologize?"
"Dad, I'm your own flesh and blood! As for Xanthe, don't worry. On the day the Exam results are out, if you have even a sliver of hesitation, I absolutely won't force you to marry her. Xanthe has her own two hands to work with. But I *am* saving her."
"Fine! You're full of your own grand ideas, and you have zero respect for me as your father! I'm done! From today on, I wash my hands of all this. Arrange things however you want!"
Arthur slammed Xanthe's medical report down and stormed out of the hospital room.
"Arthur..." Xanthe called out. Amber took a deep breath. "Let him cool off. It's better he knows this now."
But Xanthe sighed heavily. She understood the logic, but it wasn't good for a father and daughter to ruin their relationship over her.
"Amber..."
"It's okay. You have nothing to worry about when I handle things. But more importantly..." A cold smirk touched Amber's lips. "Shouldn't we teach Grace a little lesson for getting you beaten up?"
Xanthe froze. "Amber..."
