Joanne was absolutely livid. She never in a million years imagined that just ignoring Grace's calls wouldn't be enough. Grace had actually weaponized Loretta against her.
Everyone in the neighborhood knew Loretta was a nightmare. If she set her sights on you, you were going to bleed.
Just when she had been thrilled about securing Lucian's fifty thousand dollars, this had to happen...
"Loretta, I don't have that kind of money. Besides, Lucian said the thirty thousand was a gift, I don't need to pay it back." Joanne tried to put on a sweet, pleading smile.
Loretta put her hands on her hips. "That's none of my business. Grace sent me. Joanne, you can't expect me to work all day and walk away with nothing, right? And hey, if you don't have any money, what are you doing at a bar?"
Loretta suddenly raised her voice, acting like she was about to make a scene. Terrified, Joanne slapped a hand over Loretta's mouth. "Fine! One thousand, I'll pay it!"
She would just write today off as bad luck. If Loretta caused a scene here and scared off her sugar daddy, let alone the fifty thousand from Lucian next week, she'd lose everything.
Grace was a total parasite, demanding the thirty thousand back and forcing her to pay Loretta's fees on top of it. She was calculating to a fault!
Whatever. She just had to survive a few more days. Once she had that fifty grand, she wouldn't care if she had a massive fallout with Lucian. No, wait—there was also his three-hundred-thousand-dollar scholarship. She had to get her hands on that too.
"That's a good girl. You don't want trouble, and I don't want trouble. Alright, I'm heading out, but remember, you have to pay me tomorrow too. Don't forget!" Loretta counted the cash and walked away.
Easiest money she had ever made.
All thanks to Amber.
Joanne gritted her teeth, glaring daggers at Loretta's retreating back. Just wait. In a few days, once the money was in her hands, she wouldn't let Grace or Loretta off the hook.
Loretta turned a corner, glanced back to ensure Joanne wasn't following, and quickly ducked into an alley.
Amber was waiting for her under a streetlamp.
