Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 85

After securing a table, Grace headed back to her apartment to get dolled up.

She dug out a vintage floral dress she had kept hidden at the bottom of her closet.

Staring at herself in the full-length mirror, Grace was incredibly satisfied. Even in her forties, she maintained a beautiful face, an enviable figure, and well-kept skin.

She fastened a string of white pearls around her neck. Arthur had bought them for her last year, claiming they perfectly matched her elegance.

No woman disliked a compliment, even at forty.

Yet, she still despised Arthur.

Other women wore gold bangles and diamond necklaces; how much could a simple string of pearls really be worth? Four thousand bucks at most. Would Arthur ever be willing to spend more on her?

She opened a drawer and applied a bold lipstick, making her striking features look even more alluring. Any man who looked at her would be completely mesmerized.

Arthur, that pushover, wasn't blind. He knew damn well who was better looking between her and that scrawny Xanthe Sutton. Besides, she had given him twelve years of her life.

That homewrecker thought she could steal her man? —Even if they weren't legally married, as long as she didn't let go, Xanthe didn't stand a chance. She was going to put that woman in her place tonight.

After finishing their shopping for tomorrow's launch, Arthur nudged Xanthe. "Let's head back and drop this off. It's almost five. We should head straight to the restaurant, I don't want Grace waiting."

Xanthe knew exactly how Arthur felt about Grace. Even though he claimed he was over it, his every action still revolved around her.

Seeing the sweat beaded on Arthur's forehead, Xanthe said gently, "There's no rush, Arthur. We still have half an hour. We've been running around all day. Since Grace is treating us to a nice dinner, it's only polite that we change into some clean, presentable clothes first. It's a sign of respect."

Arthur thought about it. "You're right. She's a stickler for cleanliness, and it's rare she treats us out. Showing up like this would be disrespectful. Let's go change first, see you in a bit."

Xanthe smiled.

The moment she closed her bedroom door, her heart began to pound. She pulled out the canvas bag she had brought all the way from the Sutton household.

She didn't have many spare clothes. The things she normally wore were either patched up or hand-me-downs from her sisters-in-law.

But before Loretta had helped her escape, she had given her a brand-new outfit and some cosmetics. Xanthe hadn't dared to use them yet, but she knew today was the day.

Otherwise—she'd be letting Amber down.

Arthur took a lightning-fast shower, scrubbing his face and giving himself a quick shave.

Looking in the mirror, he looked sharp and refreshed. Not bad.

He was getting older, sure, but who hadn't been young once? Not to brag, but in his prime, he had been a real catch.
