Two Reborn, One Throne novel Chapter 98

Before they even reached the hospital, right as Arthur carried her to the entrance of their street, Grace fluttered her eyes open.

Finding herself on his back, she called out weakly, "Arthur... what happened to me? Where are you taking me?"

Lucian quickly replied, "Mom, you passed out. He's taking you to the hospital."

Grace immediately began to wail, "I'm not going to the hospital! What's the point?" She thrashed around like a madwoman. "Just let me die! What's the point of living anymore?"

Arthur was alarmed. "Don't say things like that! If you die, what will Lucian do?"

"What do I care? His wings are strong now; he can fly wherever he wants! I raised him through blood, sweat, and tears, and this is how he repays me?"

"Arthur, just let me go! You don't care about me anymore anyway."

Arthur set her down gently. "I do care about you."

"You do not! It was bad enough in front of the kids, but you completely ignored me in front of Loretta's cousin! Twelve years, Arthur! If you really cared about me, would you have let Lucian get down on his knees for Amber?"

"You're twisting a knife in my heart! Tell me, why should I even go on living when even you treat me like this?" With that, she made a wild dash toward the street. Arthur caught her by the arm and pulled her back. Had Lucian and Joanne not been standing right there, he would have wrapped her in his arms and told her, "Let's look at this objectively, Grace. Don't be unreasonable."

Grace yanked her arm free. "I'm unreasonable? Fine! Go live with that perfectly reasonable Xanthe! Lucian, let's go home. We won't waste any more of his time."

Arthur rubbed his temples, feeling a massive headache coming on. "Grace..."

"Don't call my name! You treat me like an idiot, but I'm not. Why didn't you tell me she was Loretta's cousin? Are you hiding things from me now? Do you think I've dragged you along without marrying you for too long, and you can't afford to waste any more time? If you want to be with her, fine! Just tell me. I'm not the type to cling to a man. But why did you have to keep it a secret?"

She wept as if her heart had been ripped from her chest. She had been suffocating all day and desperately needed to vent.

Arthur sighed. He had plenty of questions for her too, but out here on the street, with her in such a state, he could only say, "Let's go home and talk. Do you really want the neighbors to see this?"

Grace promptly dropped her bottom to the pavement. "I'm not going back! If we don't clear this up right now, I'll sit right here and let the whole neighborhood see that you have no heart. That you found someone new and forgot all about me. And that you and your new woman are bullying a helpless mother and son!"

"Grace Walters, that is enough!" Arthur seriously felt the urge to hit something.

"What? You want to hit me now? Do it! If you don't hit me today, you're not a real man! Come on, right in the face!" She grabbed his hand and tried to force it against her cheek.
