"Mr. Everly, I'm here to do my job. I don't want to get dragged into some media scandal. Could you please just leave?"
Finnian knew how seriously Amara took her work. Seeing her genuine frustration, he paused before answering, "I'll go for now. If anyone on set gives you a hard time or starts talking nonsense, tell me. I'll handle it."
Amara pressed her lips into a tight line, saying nothing.
She watched him leave from the corner of her eye, a sudden pang of sadness hitting her chest. But ripping off the bandage was better than a slow bleed. She couldn't afford to be soft with him anymore. She had to put her foot down and keep him away; otherwise, this endless, tangled mess would only end up hurting them both.
Before stepping out, Finnian cast one last glance her way. Why was she staring so intently at her shoes, refusing to even look at him? His chest tightened with a heavy ache, but knowing he couldn't push her any further today, he had no choice but to walk away.
The moment he was gone, the entire set practically exploded into chaotic whispers.
"Isn't Mr. Everly Antonia's cousin? He just told Antonia to call Amara her sister-in-law. Are they together?"
"It wouldn't just be 'together,' it'd be getting back together. But wait, isn't Amara dating Keith? They eat together and chat every single day. They're basically glued to each other. What on earth is going on?"
"Sure, they grab lunch all the time, but maybe they're just friends... No, wait, that doesn't make sense. Weren't they about to tie the knot? Going from an engaged couple to just pals is way too weird. Are we looking at some crazy love triangle here?"
After Finnian had pulled Amara away by the hand, Antonia was left paralyzed on set, listening to the crew dissect the drama, entirely unsure of what to do.
A little while later, she saw him leave, and it looked like Amara was heading back to her dressing room. Finally snapping out of her daze, Antonia gritted her teeth, marched right over, and blocked Amara's path.
"Amara, wait a second," Antonia demanded.
Amara turned around, fixing her with an icy stare. "Can I help you?"
