Hearing Edward’s question, Arabella was reminded that they weren’t alone in the room. A faint headache began to pulse at her temples–why hadn’t she thought to warn Matthew earlier in the hallway? What reasonable explanation could she possibly give for all this?
“No,” Arabella attempted to deny it.
It wasn’t as if they were friends anyway, so it wasn’t exactly a lie. After all, she was just the attending physician Robert had hired; there was no personal connection to Matthew.
Matthew seemed to sense her struggle to explain and stepped in smoothly. “Actually, Dr. Macdonald is currently my grandfather’s attending physician.”
In doing so, he directly confirmed her identity as a doctor.
Hearing his words, Arabella couldn’t help but press a hand to her forehead, but the damage was done. She shot him an exasperated look.
He really knew how to “help“-Edward had probably just started to let the doctor comment slide, and now Matthew had brought it right back up.
Sure enough, as soon as Matthew mentioned it, Edward recalled his earlier unanswered question.
you end up as Mr.
He frowned, looking at Arabella with renewed confusion. “Arabella, I just heard Mr. Stewart call you ‘Dr. Macdonald‘. When did you study medicine? And how did Stewart’s grandfather’s doctor? What’s going on?”
Arabella threw a meaningful glance at Matthew.
He met her eyes, and only then did it dawn on him that Edward hadn’t been aware of her medical role.
Arabella shifted uncomfortably, unsure how to navigate this. She could only evade. “It’s… a long story. I’ll explain another time when I have a chance. Right now, I really should get going -I have other things to take care of.”
“Huh?” Edward was taken aback. She hadn’t explained anything at all. Why was she leaving so abruptly?
“Mr. Stewart, you must be busy too, right? Let’s go together.” Arabella looked pointedly at Matthew, signaling for him to follow.

If she didn’t extract him now, she was afraid he might casually let another one of her secrets slip.
“Alright,” Matthew replied, catching her drift.
“Take care, Mr. Stewart.” Seeing they were indeed leaving, Edward could only offer a polite farewell to Matthew.
“Mm. Get your rest.”
“Edward, I’ll come by another day. Sorry for disturbing you–try to get some sleep,” Arabella said, forcing an apologetic smile.
“Alright. Drive safe,” Edward replied, swallowing his confusion and offering a concerned reminder.
With that, Arabella left the room with Matthew.
Once in the hallway, Arabella turned to him, her tone direct. “What were you doing here, really? Were you trying to get close to my brother to dig up information about me?”
Matthew’s lips quirked slightly. “You’re overthinking it. I probably know more about your affairs than your brother does.”
Arabella immediately frowned. What was that supposed to mean?
Did he know she was Aletta?
Or did he know she was Marla?!
Or maybe… he knew everything?!
With that thought, she asked cautiously, “What… exactly do you know?”
Matthew glanced at her slightly tense posture. “Why so nervous? I haven’t told anyone.” “Who’s nervous? I was just asking,” Arabella retorted, immediately averting her gaze. Looking at her somewhat guilty expression, Matthew couldn’t help a small, amused smile.
“By the way, I came here to pick up some more of my grandpa’s medicine. Did you bring it?” he inquired, changing the subject.
“Medicine? What medicine? I already wrote the prescription,” Arabella replied evenly.

“It’s the medication you gave him last time. He’s run out,” Matthew clarified, realizing her misunderstanding.
Arabella finally caught on and gave him a look. “Well, why didn’t you say so? I don’t have any on me right now. Have someone come pick it up later.”
“From where?” Matthew looked at her, puzzled.
Arabella then remembered he didn’t know about her pharmaceutical company. Another secret to guard.
“Never mind. I’ll just deliver it to you myself.”
He already knew too much; she couldn’t risk him finding out about the company, too.
“Fine. But make sure it’s soon,” Matthew said.
“Got it,” Arabella replied, turning to leave.
But after a few steps, she paused, thought for a moment, and turned back to face Matthew. Her tone was firm. “Matthew, no matter how much you think you know about me, I expect you to keep it to yourself. It’s best if my brother and my family don’t hear a single word about any of
