Arabella met Florence’s hopeful gaze and agreed. “Alright. What time tomorrow?”

“Tomorrow morning. We could leave right after breakfast, if that suits your schedule?” Florence suggested, checking with her.

“That works for me.”

“Wonderful. Let’s have dinner, then,” Florence said with a pleased smile.

“Mom, may I come along as well?” Naomi chimed in after overhearing their plans.

Florence had actually hoped to spend the day at the exhibition with just Arabella and wasn’t keen on a larger group.

“Naomi, don’t you have your pilot’s ground school session tomorrow?” Florence asked, subtly reminding her of prior commitments instead of answering directly.

“I was thinking of taking a day off tomorrow. Is it an inconvenience? If so, I don’t have to go,” Naomi replied, picking up on Florence’s reluctance.

“It’s not an inconvenience, dear. I just didn’t want to disrupt your plans. But if you’d like a day off, you’re certainly welcome to join us,” Florence said, agreeing somewhat reluctantly.

Seeing that Naomi was going, Ruby decided she wanted in, too. “Aunt Florence, I’d love to go as well.”

“What’s your reason for wanting to go? Isn’t your father keeping you busy these days?” Florence gave her a mildly exasperated look.

“Dad’s preoccupied with his own projects right now. I haven’t been to a proper exhibition in forever. Please let me tag along, Aunt Florence,” Ruby pleaded, walking over and adopting a sweet, wheedling tone.

Florence considered for a moment before sighing. “Oh, very well. I can never resist you. Stay here tonight, then, and we’ll all go together in the morning.”

If Ruby came, she could keep Naomi company, which might actually free Florence up to spend more one–on–one time with Arabella.

Seeing Florence agree, Ruby immediately beamed. “Thank you, Aunt Florence!”

“Naomi, we get to go to the exhibition together tomorrow!” Ruby said cheerfully to Naomi.

Early the next morning, in the dining room, Florence, Arabella, Naomi, and Ruby were having breakfast together.

Jonathan looked up from his newspaper. “Arabella, I heard you visited the pharmaceutical facility yesterday?”

“Yes, I did,” Arabella confirmed.

“And what were your impressions?” Jonathan asked.

“It seems functional, but Ethan is proposing an expansion. After looking around, I agree it has potential—the R&D department, in particular, is in dire need of more space.”

“An expansion?” Jonathan’s brow furrowed slightly as he considered the idea.

“Yes, but nothing is finalized. We agreed to discuss it with Grandpa first,” Arabella explained, sharing her current thinking.

“Consulting your grandfather is the wise approach. When were you planning to see him?” Jonathan inquired.

“We initially thought this morning, but Mom mentioned the exhibition she wanted us to attend. I’ll probably go to Grandpa’s place after we’re done at the exhibition,” Arabella outlined her plan.

Hearing this, Florence turned to her with a concerned expression. “Arabella, why didn’t you mention this yesterday? If I’d known you had important business, I wouldn’t have insisted on the exhibition.”

“It’s perfectly alright, Mom. The exhibition won’t take all day. You wanted me to accompany you, and I’d like to,” Arabella said with a gentle, reassuring smile.

“Well, yes, but I don’t want to keep you from your responsibilities,” Florence replied, still sounding slightly troubled.

“How about this, Arabella,” Naomi suggested from across the table. “Why don’t you go ahead with your work? Ruby and I can accompany Mom to the exhibition.”

“Yes, exactly. If you have work to attend to, you shouldn’t delay it. Aunt Florence will be perfectly fine with me and Naomi,” Ruby chimed in, secretly hoping this would mean Arabella wouldn’t join them after all.

Arabella glanced at both of them, her smile polite but unwavering. “I already gave Mom my word yesterday. I’ll go with her–it will be a nice change of pace for me. There’s no need for either of you to worry about my schedule.”
