“Are you talking about the family I picked Arabella up from when she first arrived?” Alfred, who had been listening, pieced things together and asked tentatively.
“Mhm.” Arabella gave a slight nod.
“What do they want with you now?” Alfred pressed, puzzled. He could sense the confrontation wasn’t for a friendly chat. Having just returned, he wasn’t yet up to speed on all that had transpired in his absence.
Ethan glanced at Alfred. “A lot has happened while you were away. I’ll fill you in on the details later.
“Arabella, with the two of us here, you have nothing to fear. Even if ten more of their kind showed up, it wouldn’t be enough to trouble Alfred,” Ethan said offhandedly.
“That’s right. Don’t worry about a thing. Just go with Ethan to the car later. All you need to do is tell me how you’d like them handled,” Alfred added, his tone equally casual.
Arabella looked at her fiercely protective brothers, feeling a surge of warmth in her heart. A faint, touched smile touched her lips. “I’m not afraid. I was just thinking they’re probably here because of the trouble with Harper and Dylan.”
“Because of those two? What do those poorly raised individuals have to do with you?” Ethan asked, looking at Arabella with
confusion.
“My history with them… isn’t something that can be summed up in a few sentences.
“But this is a hospital. I don’t want to cause a scene with them here,” Arabella said calmly.
After all, Dylan’s hand had been broken, and she was responsible for those compromising photos being leaked all over social media. They’d been trending topics for days, utterly humiliated.
She had to admit, watching it unfold had been satisfying.
“So, what would you like to do?” Ethan still prioritized Arabella’s wishes.
“Ethan, Alfred, why don’t you wheel me out through a different exit later? It’s better to avoid such petty people. They’re not worth either of you getting your hands dirty,” Arabella instructed calmly.
“Are you sure you don’t want us to teach them a lesson on your behalf? Help you blow off some steam?” Alfred didn’t mind the idea of stretching his limbs a little.
“No need. I’ve already gotten my fill of satisfaction. I just don’t want the hassle of dealing with them right now,” Arabella said peaceably.
“Alright, whatever you say.” With that, Alfred and Ethan began wheeling Arabella toward a staff exit on the other side of the clinic.
Carter had searched around for a while before finally finding an unguarded service entrance.
Spotting a security guard posted farther down the hall, Carter pulled his collar up and covered part of his face with his hand, quickly walking past and into the main hospital building.

In the central lobby, Carter’s eyes darted around, trying to spot Arabella. After a fruitless search, feeling tired, he sank into a chair in a secluded corner to rest.
Suddenly, a familiar figure came into his line of sight. He squinted for a better look. Arabella! Why is she in a wheelchair?
And the men pushing her… do they look like her brothers? Carter frowned, his eyes tracking their movement.
Seeing Arabella accompanied by two imposing men, Carter decided against a direct approach. He immediately pulled out his phone and called Freya. “I spotted Arabella in the main lobby. She’s in a wheelchair, being pushed by two men. They’re heading for an exit.”
“In a wheelchair? That little witch is injured too?” Freya’s voice held a note of surprise.
“Looks that way. Why else would a healthy young woman be in one?” Carter reasoned.
A nasty smile spread across Freya’s face in the privacy of her car. “Serves her right! That’s karma for all the trouble she’s caused! Follow them. I’m on my way in now.”
“Okay.” Carter quietly trailed the small group, maintaining a distance all the way to the hospital’s multi–level parking garage.
“They’re in the parking structure. Hurry up, or they’ll drive off!” Carter whispered urgently into the phone, unable to see Freya.
“I’m already here.” Freya hung up and stepped out from behind a concrete pillar, planting herself directly in front of Arabella and
her brothers.
“Leaving so soon?” Freya called out loudly, her voice echoing slightly in the concrete space.
She’d waited so long and had finally cornered her.
Just then, Carter quickly scurried over to stand beside Freya, completing the unwelcome pair.
Arabella looked toward the voice. It was Freya and Carter–those two persistent weasels.
She frowned slightly. Could they really not be avoided? Had they been lying in wait in the parking garage this whole time?
“Have you two been camping out here long?” Arabella said coldly, a clear edge of sarcasm in her tone.
Ethan and Alfred immediately recognized Freya.
