“Waiter, these people are disturbing our meal.” Unwilling to engage further, Arabella simply signaled for the server to have them removed.
Seeing Ruby about to really blow up, Naomi gripped her arm tightly and turned an apologetic look toward Lucas. “Lucas, I’m so sorry for the interruption. We’ll leave you to it.”
“Naomi, why are you dragging me?” Ruby resisted, not wanting to back down.
“Ruby, stop. You’re only going to make Lucas think less of you,” Naomi whispered urgently. Throwing a fit in public would just push him further away.
“This is all Arabella’s fault,” Ruby fumed under her breath. It was Arabella who had made her look like a fool in front of him.
“Either way, we’re not winning here. Let’s go home and strategize.” Not giving Ruby another chance to protest, Naomi firmly guided her out of the restaurant.
Once on the sidewalk outside, Ruby’s eyes were red with fury.
“I am so mad! She did that on purpose,” Ruby seethed, her voice trembling.
“Take a breath. You’re usually the one with the clever ideas,” Naomi said, studying her cousin. Ruby was usually so calculated; why was she losing her cool so completely today?
“How can I be calm, Naomi? Lucas is slipping right through my fingers because of her!” Ruby’s voice wavered, near tears.
In contrast, Naomi remained composed, even feeling a flicker of private satisfaction. If Arabella was setting her sights on Lucas, then perhaps the path was clearing for her own interest in Matthew.
Unaware of Naomi’s inner thoughts, Ruby’s anger burned hot and singularly focused on Arabella. “Just you wait, Arabella. I’ll make sure everyone sees what you’re really like.”
“Alright, let’s go. I’ll help you figure this out.”
“You have to help me, Naomi.”
“Don’t worry, I will.”
Back inside, with the two gone, peace finally returned to Arabella and Lucas‘ table.
“I wasn’t expecting to run into them. Are you… okay?” Lucas asked, concern evident in his voice.
“I’m fine.” Arabella shrugged. A minor scene like that didn’t affect her.
Lucas frowned slightly. “But is that… normal for you all?” Weren’t they supposed to be sisters? The dynamic seemed more hostile
than familial.
“Not really. We don’t cross paths much,” Arabella said, then glanced at Lucas, a thoughtful look crossing her features.
Ruby’s reaction today had been more intense than usual. Normally, it was just snide remarks or petty tricks, not a public

confrontation.
A realization suddenly clicked into place, and her expression shifted to one of mild sympathy.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Lucas asked, feeling somewhat self–conscious under her gaze.
“It’s nothing,” Arabella said, shaking her head slightly and steering the conversation back. “Let’s just finish our meal.”
It really wasn’t her place to say anything. This was his personal business to figure out.
“Okay,” Lucas replied, though he couldn’t shake the feeling he’d missed something.
Changing the subject, Arabella said, “I’ll be at practice as usual for the next two days, but I’ll need to take a day off after that.”
“A day off? Everything alright?” Lucas asked, curious.
“Just have some personal things to handle,” she explained simply.
“Alright then,” Lucas accepted, not wanting to pry since she didn’t offer more details.
After they finished eating, they walked out of the restaurant together.
“See you tomorrow then,” Lucas said, feeling an unexpected reluctance to part ways.”
“Sure, see you tomorrow,” Arabella agreed brightly.
With a small wave, she got into her car and drove off. Lucas stood for a moment, watching her car until it turned the corner and disappeared, already looking forward to the next day.
Two days later, after breakfast, Arabella changed and prepared to head out.
‘Alfred, I’m going to check on Robert today. You should still go learn from Lucas,” she reminded him. Even though she couldn’t make it to the airfield, she didn’t want to hold him back.
‘Oh, it’s fine. I’ll just wait for you,” Alfred replied easily. If she wasn’t going, he didn’t have much interest in going either.
“Alright,” Arabella said, not pressing the issue, before heading out to her car.
Soon, she arrived at Stewart Manor.
