She simply didn’t want to take Arabella’s medicine, and the thought of having to thank her personally was unbearable.
“Ruby, if you enjoy being a hospital patient that much, then stay right here. We’re done arguing,” Sophia issued her final warning, her patience thoroughly spent.
Just then, Liam returned to the room.
‘Why hasn’t she taken the medicine yet?” Liam asked with a frown.
‘Your daughter seems to prefer the hospital accommodations,” Sophia replied coolly.
Liam fixed a sharp look on Ruby and delivered a blunt warning. “Aletta is unavailable. If you refuse Arabella’s help, then you can stay sick. It’s not a life–threatening illness–just endless discomfort. You’ll be the only one suffering.”
‘What has gotten into her lately? Why is she being so impossibly stubborn?” Sophia complained.
While Ruby had always been somewhat headstrong, she’d never caused this level of frustration before.
‘We’ve been too preoccupied with work lately. We haven’t been monitoring her closely enough,” Liam sighed.
.etting out a weary breath, Sophia softened her approach. “Ruby, please be reasonable and take the medicine. You’ll feel better once you do. Arabella is Aletta’s protégé–she’s the only one who can help you now.”
‘Have you already forgotten how much pain you were in earlier?” Liam added, raising an eyebrow.
The memory of her earlier agony flashed through Ruby’s mind, and her face lost a little more color.
Gritting her teeth, she finally took the pills with a resentful swallow.
Seeing Ruby comply, Sophia breathed a sigh of relief and turned to Liam. “Liam, Arabella’s formula is remarkably fast–acting. I took ɔne of my pills earlier and already feel more clear–headed. You should take one too.”
“That effective?” Liam sounded pleasantly surprised.
“Yes. Arabella is truly impressive–no wonder she was chosen as Aletta’s student.”
“Mmm. A credit to the Hamilton family. Exceptionally gifted.”
Listening to them sing Arabella’s praises, Ruby seethed silently.
What was so special about Arabella? Why did everyone adore her so much?!
It was utterly maddening!
“Mom, Dad, could you please leave? I need to rest,” Ruby declared, pulling the covers over her head and burying herself completely. She couldn’t stand to hear another word about Arabella.
“This girl.” Sophia shook her head in resignation. “Fine, get your rest. We won’t bother you”
They didn’t leave the room but moved quietly to the small seating area by the window to relax.

Just you wait, Arabella. This isn’t over.

Arabella drove Florence home to find the living room quiet and empty.
“No one else is back yet,” Arabella noted. “Mom, why don’t you go upstairs and lie down for a while?”
“I’m alright; I’m not that tired,” Florence replied, settling onto the plush sofa.
Arabella took a seat beside her.
‘Arabella, have you seen much of Matthew lately?” Florence inquired.
‘Actually, yes, just today…” The memory of the morning’s incident surfaced, and Arabella’s expression turned slightly awkward.
Florence smiled gently. “What happened today?”
‘Oh, we finalized a contract,” Arabella said, striving for a neutral tone.
‘Just business?” Florence sounded a touch disappointed. “You didn’t have lunch together or anything?”
‘It was a work meeting. We went our separate ways afterward,” Arabella explained matter–of–factly.
Florence’s hope seemed to dim a little, but seeing Arabella’s composed demeanor, she held back the many questions on the tip of
her tongue.
Oh well. These things take time. Pushing might make her uncomfortable.
‘By the way, Naomi’s birthday dinner is in a few days. I had a formal evening gown and a jewelry set custom–made for you. They should be delivered today. Try them on when they arrive–if anything isn’t perfect, there’s still time for alterations,” Florence said, shifting the subject.
Arabella was taken aback. “You commissioned a gown and jewelry for me?”
‘But of course. For such an important social event, I want you to shine.” Florence gazed at her daughter, her eyes full of tender affection.
“Mom, you really didn’t have to go to so much trouble,” Arabella said, wrapping her arm around Florence’s and leaning her head on her shoulder. “I know you want to give me everything, but I truly have more than enough clothes and accessories.”
Since returning to this family, she had finally experienced the warmth of home and the depth of a family’s love.
